May is right around the corner, and we are looking forward to warmer weather and the celebration of our 8th Annual Jockeys & Juleps Derby Party on Saturday, May 6. With our annual fundraising event just a few weeks away, we are gearing up for the party of the year with BIG HATS, BOURBON, BLUEGRASS, and a live broadcast of the 149th Annual Kentucky Derby to raise funds that make life-changing opportunities possible for everyone we serve. With a limited number of tickets still available, we hope you will join us for the Run for the Roses . . .
Memphis style!
Here are just a few of our April highlights sharing all of the great things happening at the farm as we continue to change lives . . . one ride at a time.

Our Spring Session is well under way, and we are so excited to announce we are serving the largest number of participants in Southern Reins history! 161 individuals are taking part in Adaptive Horseback Riding, Occupational Therapy incorporating Hippotherapy, Making Strides Recreation Therapy, PATH Intl. Equine Services for Heroes, and our TEACH Program and Pony Pals visits with Clyde. All of our participants, new and returning, have filled the farm with smiling faces, and we are so grateful to be able to help so many.

the saddle.

Program Update: Welcome Lizzie Cash |
|
Southern Reins would like to share a very warm welcome to our new Marketing & Event Manager, Lizzie Cash!
Lizzie was born and raised in Germantown, TN, and moved to the Nashville area in the fall of 2018 after graduating from the University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Relations and a minor in Marketing Management. While in Nashville, Lizzie pursued her passion for marketing by gaining experience in the healthcare and IT industries before moving back closer to home. Lizzie has loved horses from a very young age, and has experience volunteering for numerous organizations benefitting individuals
with disabilities.
Outside of work, Lizzie enjoys spending time outdoors, reading, and walking her dog, Millie. Welcome to the team, Lizzie! We are so happy to have you here!

Advisory Board Update: Welcome Matt Galler |

Please join us in welcoming our newest Advisory Board Member, Matt Galler! Matt is a lifelong Memphian who graduated from the University of Mississippi. He is the President of Galler Foods, the only locally-owned food distributor in the Memphis area. Matt has always been a tremendous advocate for youth programs throughout the Mid-South, and has supported Southern Reins since 2017. Welcome aboard, Matt! |

Equine Services For Heroes
We are always honored to welcome back veterans to take part in our PATH Intl. Equine Services for Heroes program. Each Monday, our participants work with our horses to increase trust, and reduce feelings of anxiety and stress. One of our Veterans, Alexander, loves spending time at the farm while building his bond with his therapy
horse, Jazz!

We were delighted to welcome a group of wonderful volunteers from Volunteer Odyssey at the farm this month. The group helped by completing yard work projects across the property to celebrate Volunteer Odyssey's 10-Year Day of Service. Rylee Ring Master
Our new Program Coordinator, Rylee, has loved being in the arena with all of the participants for our Spring Session! Activities using rings and other tools help participants improve their focus, coordination, and balance that contributes to developing independent living skills and improving their overall life skills.

Thank You TigerLIFE
Thank you to our friends from TigerLIFE with the University of Memphis for spending their Tuesday and Thursday mornings volunteering here at Southern Reins! The TigerLIFE group has been such a huge help maintaining our facilities, keeping up with landscaping, and of course, making sure Elvis stays clean. We are incredibly grateful!
