Greetings from the farm!
It is officially Summer and we are thrilled to have everyone back at the farm for our Summer Session! We look forward to seeing our participants achieve new goals and success in the saddle working with our wonderful therapy horses, dedicated volunteers, and talented staff.
Here are just a few of our June highlights sharing all of the great things happening at the farm as we continue to change lives . . . one ride at a time.

Our 6-week session began on June 12, and we are so excited to have returning and new participants and volunteers back at the farm. This session we will serve more than 60 participants in Adaptive Riding, Occupational Therapy incorporating Hippotherapy, PATH Intl. Equine Services for Heroes, Unbridled Horsemanship, and Silver Stirrups - making it our largest Summer Session yet!

Be sure to check out all the great photos from our recently concluded Spring Session now live on Facebook! We love seeing so many smiles shared by our participants and volunteers.

Our sweet boy Jazz is getting better each and every day! He is so happy to be home from his surgery in Kentucky last month. Our Program Director and Head Instructor, Sara, along with our Program Coordinator, Rylee, have been exercising Jazz so he is in tip-top shape and ready to get back into our lesson program.
We would like to share our deepest appreciation to all the wonderful donors who contributed to Jazz's surgery and medical costs through our Facebook fundraiser and the Guardian Angel Horse Fund. Because of you, our boy will be better than ever and back in the arena to serve his participants soon.
The Guardian Angel Horse Fund exclusively underwrites special care and medical expenses for our kind and gentle friends. With a recurring gift of just $5 each month - or up to any amount you would like to give - your donation will give all of our horses, like Jazz, the wings they need to continue making a life-changing difference every day for children and adults with disabilities and hardships throughout our community.

Southern Reins would like to share a very warm welcome to our newest members of our Barn Staff, Ella Arellano and Austin Cash!
Ella was born in Denver, CO and moved to the Memphis area in 1993. She attended the University of Memphis and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Exercise Physiology. After graduating college, she opened her own personal training/spin studio on the square in Collierville, TN. In 2020, Ella began pursuing her dream of working with horses and children. She joined the barn staff at Southern Reins in April of 2023 and will be working as a PATH Intl. Instructor in Training to gain her CTRI certification. Ella is a member of Pegasus of Germantown and the Germantown Charity Horse Show. Outside of work she enjoys going to church and spending time with her family, friends, and dogs.
Austin was born in Memphis, TN. He attended the University of Memphis and received his Bachelor of Business Administration with a degree in Management. After graduating college, he knew he wanted to be in a career that helped people. He went to school to become an advanced emergency medical technician and worked for a local fire department. In 2023, Austin began volunteering at Southern Reins and realized that he had a real passion for working with horses and children. He joined the barn staff at Southern Reins in June of 2023 and will be training to become a PATH Intl. Instructor to gain his CTRI certification. When he is not at the farm, Austin enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, watching movies, working out, and taking care of his dogs, Pepper

Summer Sunshine with Brenda
Brenda Heindl is a very special member of our volunteer team who goes above and beyond to care for our herd. We love this photo of Brenda leading Jute and Shiloh to their pasture for an afternoon of rest and to soak up the sunshine. Thank you, Brenda, our horses appreciate all you do for them!
