Town of Southold Police Department LIVE with IMPACT®
The Southold Police Department, approximately 52 sworn officers, is located on the eastern end of Long Island and the last thing you want to do is implement a new CAD/Records systems during the extremely busy summer season. Thus, the deadline was to go live before school is out and the Memorial Day holiday. The date was set for May 12
th
. "That gave us 3 months from the time the project was formerly approved to bring on-line", states Dennis Labriola, IMPACT's President and CEO. "A complicated project for a good size department involving data conversion from an antiquated system on an AS-400, CAD, GIS, interfaces to several fire departments, and a very short duration to train the staff. If it wasn't for the involvement of the Town's IT staff, as well as Chief Flatley's support and the PD's project staff, meeting this timetable would not have been possible. The Town's Network and System Administrator Lloyd Reisenberg and his team did a great job in getting us the data off the old system and making sure the infrastructure was in place.
"We had concerns that we would be able to get this done in the time permitted as much of the task items involved depended on other tasks being completed. For example, we needed to order servers before the software could be installed and configured. Both IMPACT and my team knew we had to deploy temporary solutions to keep the project on task understanding we would need to adjust as we went along. Extra work for everyone, but we got it done", Lloyd Reisenberg affirms. "It required a great effort from everyone and the IMPACT team especially." COO Paul Labriola adds, "this project included the implementation of the IMPACT: CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) with mapping, IMPACT: RMS (Records Management System), the IMPACT: Mobile technology suite including Field Reporting and AVL (Automatic Vehicle Locator), and also interfaces to E-911, the NYS E-Justice system, Livescan for digital fingerprinting, TRACs for ticket processing and those for the Town's Fire agencies. Much to do in a short time and we still are making some minor adjustments, but for the most part our plan and project management efforts did the trick. Much of the success of this project goes to Chief Flatley. Without the PD's staff full engagement, especially with the short timetable, making this deadline would not have been possible. "Whenever you make a major change to a major component of the operational environment to any organization, you know going in it is not an easy task, not an effortless undertaking", states Chief Martin Flatley. "We knew that the former system was antiquated and we needed to upgrade our technology. We also knew the reputation of IMPACT, as many of our neighboring municipalities utilize their software products and services. The big question we had was whether this was the right time? The window is always smaller than you would like. Having the support of the Town Board and our IT group and needing to do all we can to serve our community, dictated that this is something we needed to address and now was the correct time. Utilizing the updated IMPACT system is still a bit new, but the staff is getting comfortable. The IMPACT staff expertise and dedication of their management gives us confidence and reassurance that in a short time it will all be second nature."
