SVCC Alums in
Cool Ag Jobs
The Month of March celebrates National Agriculture Week, March 18 - 24, and National Ag Day on March 20.  Most people, when they hear "agriculture," think about farming.  Farming is at the heart of the agribusiness industry, but the farmers who actually produce food and fiber products for the United States make up only two percent of the population.  Agribusiness, on the other hand, is the number one industry in the U.S. and employs nearly 20% of the population.

Governor Visits SVCC Power Line Worker Training Program
Virginia's new Governor, Ralph Northam, spent part of a cold, snowy and blustery day touring the field where power line worker students train for jobs in the Commonwealth. His visit to the Southside Virginia Community College Occupational Technical Center at Pickett Park was arranged by Virginia Maryland and Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives and Andrew Vehorn, Director of Governmental Affairs for VMDAE.
Partnerships Put Student Success In CITE
Staying relevant in today's fast-paced digital world is a challenge.  At times, it seems an impossible task, but students in the Center for Information Technology Excellence (CITE) lab at the Southside Virginia Community College Lake Country Advanced Knowledge Center (LCAKC) are making progress with both the software and hardware side of computers. With this state of the art lab, the "advanced" in the name of the center itself rings true.
Located in South Hill at the LCAKC, the establishment of the lab is due to a partnership of the Virginia Tobacco Region Revitalization Commission, the town of South Hill, Microsoft and SVCC.
Second Chances
Second chances are always good. In Southside Virginia, a Diversion Program for young offenders is offering another chance at a successful life without incarceration.

The Coordinator of the diversion program at SVCC is pleased to announce initial successes from its first class.  Designed to provide alternative sentencing, the first class began in October 2016. SVCC worked in partnership with local Commonwealth's Attorneys' offices to include Brunswick, Greensville, Mecklenburg and Lunenburg counties.
