At Kirtland Hope Church, the situation presented a great opportunity for personal outreach in the community as each family was supplied not only with gifts for their own family but also with gifts for their neighbors whom they wanted to bless. Since so many on the reservation have been so restricted in being able to come and go, your gifts brought the light and love of Jesus into an otherwise dark and challenging year for many Navajo families.
This year we were grateful for the churches that chose to send loose gift items and/or generous cash gifts. The cash was used to purchase all the gifts needed to fill in age groups where more items were needed and the supplies for wrapping. It was quite the experience to arrive at the Walmart checkout with heaping shopping carts with stacks of shoe box size containers, 30 packages of socks, 30 collections of body lotions and scents, as well as card games, toys, gloves, notebooks, bags of candy, and more!
After shopping, the Kirtland Hope members gathered to check box contents and labels, sort, add a handful of candy as needed, and repack in boxes for Pine Tree Mission labeled by age groups. It’s usually a 2-day job, but we laugh and have so much fun working together knowing what joy it will bring to so many!
