The Mientras Tanto Assembly Offering Appeal:
Expanding the Impact of the Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund

We invite you to join the Southwestern Texas Synod as together we expand the impact of the Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund by raising an additional $150,000.

The Evangelical Mission Endowment Fund enables emerging missional efforts. Because of the Mission Endowment Fund:
  • Eagle Pass Frontera Ministries offers hope and hospitality to migrants at the border
  • Iglesia Luterana San Lucas provides sustaining nourishment for 100 families a month through their food bank
  • Pláticas de Santa Sofía shares the love and welcome of Christ to those experiencing houselessness in downtown San Antonio
  • Valley Metanoia Network creates new disciples and explores new ways of being church among young adults and Spanish speakers in the Rio Grande Valley.

Mientras Tanto: Meanwhile

The world is struggling. Mientras tanto, God is acting for the reconciliation of all things and is calling us to act in partnership as well!

Your gift, whether $25, $250, or $2500, will make an impact in people’s lives.

To inspire us to reach this goal, the first $50,000 given by and through congregations will be matched, dollar for dollar. That means that your gift will double!

Thank you for your generous partnership in this year’s Southwestern Texas Synod Assembly offering!

Deadline Extended!

As you may already be aware, the ELCA annual congregation report submission website has been experiencing some issues in the past few days. The IT folks are working to resolve these issues.

Because of this, the deadline for parochial reports has been extended to March 15.

In the meantime, the following workarounds have been suggested if the system is erasing information or showing a blank screen when you click “submit":

  • Submitting the form on a different computer.
  • Clearing the cache on your browser.
  • Using another browser.

Thank you for your patience as the ELCA works to resolve these issues.

A Study Curriculum on Civic Life and Faith

How are we as Lutheran Christians called to civic engagement, including in the arenas of government and political life? What is the proper relationship of the church with government, and what is not? What does religious liberty actually include? What are our scriptural and confessional resources for probing such questions about civic life?

We invite you and your congregation to explore these questions and more by using "A Study Curriculum on Civic Life and Faith."

This study curriculum has just been released by the ELCA Task Force for Studies on Civic Life and Faith. It includes six sessions and is a critical step on the way to the social statement called for by the 2019 Churchwide Assembly.

Urban Servant Corps

Are you a young adult dedicated to social justice and a simpler way of life? Are you someone who hopes to explore or deepen your faith? Are you seeking experience in the non-profit/ministry field? Consider joining the Urban Servant Corps community in Denver, CO.

At USC, we believe that service is transformational -- it creates the opportunity for shared humanity and to faithfully respond to one another's needs. We also believe that in community, we are able to live more faithful, simple lives that are in service to one another.

Our full-time volunteers live in an intentional community house in downtown Denver with others who are committed to social justice, racial justice, and accompanying vulnerable populations. Food, housing, health insurance, a monthly stipend and an annual "growth and development" allotment are provided. Additionally, Spiritual Direction, alumni mentorship, and professional development opportunities are offered as part of this experience.

Book Study: Reclaiming Rural: Building Thriving Rural Congregations

Thursdays, April 20 - May 11
7:00 PM CST
Zoom

This is a lay leadership opportunity. Join us for a book study and conversation that moves us, as author Allen Stanten writes, to RECLAIM the gifts of God’s presence and partnership in rural areas where many have boughten the narrative there is only decay and decline.

Join us online where we will not only learn from our reading, but also from one another as we rediscover that rural ministry is far more diverse and open for opportunity for revitalization. Participants will explore alternative narratives for rural congregations, various indicators of thriving rural churches, and refocus on necessary theology and practices needed in order to RECLAIM the future God brings.

The Awakening Retreat at Lutherhill

March 17-19
La Grange, TX

Join us for The Awakening Retreat, a time set apart to open our eyes and hearts. Together we will ask, “What is it we cannot see about racism?” Group activities, personal stories, and caring conversations will create a welcome and safe place to question our certainties and doubts. This weekend retreat is an entry-point to a deeper dive into racism awareness.
