Red Beans, Rice and a side order of SPAM

This Tuesday is Fat Tuesday.
Mardi Gras in New Orleans, the end of Carnival season and the last big blow-out before Lent.

In our Sweet Home, the celebration will more subdued, but there'll still be plenty to entertain you!

Music, theater, and comedy...
And at the Foothills - all 3 combined in the Orpheus Theatre's highly anticipated production of Monty Python's Spamalot!

It's going to be a fun weekend.

And while the second line may be more difficult to find - let alone join - we will none-the-less don our beads, wave our handkerchiefs in the air and shout, "Laissez les bons temps rouler!" - Let the Good Times Roll!

As they do most weekends.

Enjoy!
We'll see you next Thursday.

Writers Salon/Meet & Greet - Jack Nanuq
PARABELLUM: When you live in Peace, prepare for War. How does a POW become a spy? And why? And what the hell is a GALCO? These are only a few of the questions Carson Nowak needs answers to. JACK NANUQ currently makes his living as a Private Investigator; hence the nom de plume (and no profile photo). Prior this occupation he lived the nine lives of a cat. He has been a teacher, police officer, equipment operator, freight handler, park ranger and even a ranch hand. He has lived and worked in Egypt, Alaska, Oregon and New York (the State, not the City). Snorkeled in the Red Sea. Slept on the Nile River and under the Northern Lights (but not at the same time). Walked among grizzlies, ridden his bike by the light of the midnight sun, climbed Mt St Helens, and even jumped out of a perfectly good airplane. He and his wife currently live on a small farm near Albany, NY. They share this property with three dogs, three cats, a handful of chickens and two peacocks. He enjoys, outdoor activities, writing, Tae Kwon Do and teaching self-defense.

Farmscape Ecology with Conrad Vispo and Claudia Knab-Vispo
Join us for this free talk by Conrad Vispo and Claudia Knab-Vispo, two staff members from the Hawthorne Valley Farmscape Ecology Program In Columbia County, NY. Our current ecological landscapes are the result of a region's inherent characteristics (such as its topography, geology, flora and fauna) interacting with other forces such as human use and modifications. Nature conservation in those landscapes is influenced by that human use, but so too is that human use affected by wild nature. This is perhaps most evident in agriculture, where farm management can affect, for better or worse, native biodiversity and where, through agroecological interactions, food production is influenced by the surrounding biota. This talk will describe our experience looking at these dual perspectives in the mid Hudson Valley. It will outline resulting management suggestions and highlight what we believe to be open questions. Delaware County is a bit outside of our home turf, and we will be curious to hear what of this seems relevant to you!
