  • Overcoming Procrastination | Friday, Nov. 13, 1 p.m. – Increase your chances of success and develop a plan of action. Presented by Debra Austin, Chaos2Results Business Coaching.

  • Virtual Job Interviews: Prepare for Success | Monday, Nov. 16, 1 p.m. – Learn how to make a good impression at a distance. Presented by McClain Watson, PhD, Director of Business Communication Programs at UT Dallas.

  • Building Your Business with Reference Solutions | Friday, Nov. 20, 1 p.m. – Harness the strategic analysis and marketing power of Reference Solutions, a business and consumer database with 57 million business listings and consumer data for 320 million people.

Excel at entrepreneurship with comprehensive business planning tools and resources through the Small Business Reference Center. Flexing Your Finances

In times of uncertainty it’s especially important to act wisely to keep your finances secure. Get helpful advice from Bank of America during Smart Financial Choices in Challenging Times on Monday, Nov. 9 at 1 p.m. Learn ways to cut your spending, approach creditors for grace, identify favorable options for emergency cash, and plan to protect yourself against future crises. Registration required.

Teens can develop a money-smart mindset through a fun interactive format with the Game of Life on Monday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. Learn about paying for college, earning a first paycheck, saving for the future and more. Presented by college students from the University of North Texas Student Money Management Center. Download program materials ahead of time.

The library offers many resources for building capability with personal finance and investments. Explore a robust collection of print and eBooks from authors like Dave Ramsey, Suze Orman and Robert Kyosaki, plus eMagazines like Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, Money and Fortune. Add digital learning with Great Courses on Money Management Skills, The Art of Investing, Understanding Investments and more. Find additional resources and program recordings on our Money Smart page.
Teen Tech Tools

Teens looking to expand their tech learning beyond the classroom – we can help! Plano Public Library has a collection of STEAM kits designed just for teens and filled with hands on technology resources.

Explore basic programming concepts by coding robots such as Ozobot and Sphero to navigate mazes or develop your own video game with the Bloxels kit. The Kano Computer includes a mini computer designed to give a taste of common programming languages such as Python and Javascript through interactive games and guided learning. For future engineers, the littleBits kits provide all the circuitry components needed to invent and create gadgets, simple robots and music machines.

Languages Galore

Whether you want to communicate more with friends, family, or a new business contact, Plano Public Library has easy access to free resources to help make learning a breeze.

Pronunciator is an online learning resource with over 160 languages and personalized courses of study tailored to meet your needs. ESL learning has never been easier with so many native language options to choose as your starting point. Use web-based learning from home or the mobile app for study on the go!

Pronunciator also includes access to ProCitizen, a great study tool with instructional videos, drills, and quizzes for anyone preparing for the US naturalization test.
For ESL learners who want to practice what they’ve learned with real conversation, join our weekly Small Talk group on Zoom every Wednesday at 2 p.m. Visit the Plano Online Activities Calendar to register for upcoming sessions.

Find language learning books, CDs and DVDs using our catalog and place holds for easy Grab and Go pick up from your nearest library location.
Storytimes in Spanish and Chinese

Join us virtually for Storytime Around the World! Presented completely in Spanish or Chinese, these programs can help your child develop effective communication skills and improve attention with the aid of picture books, songs, and activities in a second language. All family members are welcome, regardless of primary language. This will be a great opportunity to connect for family members of different generations who may speak different languages.
Storytime sessions will be archived in Facebook videos after streaming on Facebook on Sundays at 2 p.m. and Wednesdays at 10 a.m.:

  • Spanish – Nov. 15/18, Nov. 22/25, Nov. 29/Dec. 2
  • Chinese – Dec. 6/9, Dec. 13/16, Dec. 20/23

Horas de Cuentos en español y chino

Acompáñenos virtualmente a nuestra Hora de Cuentos: Mundial. Los cuentos serán presentados completamente en español o chino. Usaremos libros, canciones y actividades en segundo idioma que puede ayudar a desarrollar las habilidades de comunicación y atención de sus hijos. Invitamos a todas los miembros de su familia, no importe su lenguaje primario. Será una buena oportunidad para miembros de diferentes generaciones que hablan diferentes idiomas interconectar y divertirsen.
Las Horas de Cuentos se trasmiten en vivo en Facebook los domingos a las 2 de la tarde y miércoles a las 10 de la mañana. Después serán archivadas en Facebook.
