El Festival Español de Nueva Iberia Changes Annual Festival Date
Spanish Festival Walking Parade
NEW IBERIA, La. -- In an effort to provide a better weather environment for patrons to enjoy the festival, the Spanish Festival Planning Committee has decided to change the festival's annual date from the month of November to the month of May.  As a result of this date change, the 6th El Festival Español de Nueva Iberia will be celebrated May 11-13, 2018.

La Asociación Española de Nueva Iberia's Festival Planning Committee is planning various activities throughout 2017 to keep Iberia's Spanish heritage alive in anticipation of the May 2018 festival.

The first activity of the year will be "El Baile del Rey" or "The King's Ball" which will be held on Saturday, April 22, 2017 from 7 - 11 p.m. in the Cyr Gates Community Center at New Iberia City Park. It promises to be lots of fun, with music provided by a live band. As additional activities are planned for 2017, they will be posted on NewIberiaSpanishFestival.com.

The focus and mission of the festival is to celebrate the 1779 founding of New Iberia by 16 Spanish families from Malaga, Spain and to create an educational and cultural exchange of food, music, art and history between New Iberia and the Andalusia region of Spain (in particular New Iberia's sister city, Alhaurin de la Torre) while recognizing the contributions of the original Spanish settlers to our culture.

The host agencies are La Asociación Española de Nueva Iberia and the City of New Iberia. Major supporting organizations include The Daily Iberian, Beau Soleil Café, Bayou Teche Museum, IPAL, IberiaBank, New Iberia Main Street Program and the Iberia Parish Convention & Visitors Center.
