Sedgefield Middle Spirit Week is this week and we plan to celebrate it in a big way during our homecoming football game tomorrow, October 30. Get ready for a homecoming celebration like never before with food trucks, face painting, an inflatable obstacle course and a DJ! The fun starts at 3:30 p.m. and our Spartans take on the Randolph Raiders at 5 p.m.

Rain in the forecast? No problem! We'll move the fun inside in the case of inclement weather. So, make plans to attend this fantastic event rain or shine!

Spartan Spotlight: Ms. Catherine Eldridge, Academic Facilitator
As the Sedgefield Middle academic facilitator, Ms. Eldridge acts as a bridge between administration, community partners, parents and staff – and assists with Title 1 compliance, extended day programs and the SMS Beginning Teacher Support Program. Ms. Eldridge has been in education for 24 years; she began her career in 1995 in Granville County as an Exeptional Children’s (EC) teacher, then moved to Charlotte in 1997 and worked for six years at Kennedy Middle School as an EC teacher and sixth grade science/ELA teacher. She has been at SMS since 2003.

“The thing I love about working in middle school is that it is always changing and busy,” Ms. Eldridge said. “No two days are ever the same. I could be working with teachers on lesson plans one day, then working with a business partner about supporting our staff with incentives. It is always changing.”

Club Volunteers Needed - Sign Up Today!
Clubs are a great way for scholars to work with different peers and learn new skills...and a phenomenal way for staff members to build relationships with scholars. SMS is excited to offer over 20 clubs to our scholars! The clubs range from academically-based clubs to sports-related. Scholars will be in the same club for one semester and may choose a new club in January.

We welcome any support from our parents and community members to assist with the clubs. If you are interested, please sign up here . Be sure to include your e-mail and phone number to receive updates. Please note: all volunteers must be cleared CMS volunteers; this must be done on a yearly basis. Click here to register as a CMS volunteer .
It's Okay to Judge (the Science Fair!)
From December 3-6, Sedgefield Middle scholars will flaunt their science know-how at our school science fair. To make this event a sure-fire success, volunteers are needed to help judge project oral presentations.

No science qualifications are needed (you'll be trained prior to judging) and all judges will receive a snack (Pavlovian conditioning, perhaps?) A variety of time slots are available to volunteer, so click here to sign up today. Science fair winners will be announced on December 12 at the Holiday Arts night.
