Tell a Friend - Prospective Family Tours at SMS
If you know a prospective family headed to middle school next year, share with them this sign up to schedule a tour of Sedgefield Middle. Tours are offered twice per month . Families are welcome to bring their student with them on the tour and we welcome the opportunity to meet their child. Families should indicate who will be attending when they complete the sign up.
Grounds Clean Up on November 23
Help keep the Sedgefield campus in tip-top shape by volunteering on Saturday, November 23 from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m. during grounds clean-up day. Volunteers will meet by and focus on beautifying the baseball field. Please bring gloves. Event is rain or shine.

Can't participate in the clean up, but would still like to help? We'd love donations of coffee, donuts or biscuits to help keep our volunteers nourished!

Questions? Text Andrew Thiel at 704-488-5736.
Rising Sixth Graders Put the Pep in Pep Rally
Rising sixth graders from Dilworth Elementary School, Eastover Elementary School, Barringer Academic Center and Myers Park Traditional School got a taste of Spartan spirit during a prospective student pep rally at Sedgefield Middle on Wednesday, November 13. They were treated to performances by our cheerleaders, band and honors dance team, plus a skit on “a day in the life of a sixth grader” by our improv club, an agility competition hosted by our football team and a tour of the school. We look forward to welcoming these future Spartans to our family!
Help Feed the Hungry This Holiday Season
This year is the 18th annual William's Walk, which benefits local families in need during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. A food drive is done to collect non-perishable food items, especially items for holiday meals. The food collected is walked in a symbolic one mile walk to be donated on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving through Loaves and Fishes and Second Harvest Food Bank in Charlotte.

Want to help? Please send donations of canned goods and non-perishable food items to Sedgefield Middle by Friday, November 22; a large donation bin is located by the front office. Then, join the walk on Wednesday, November 27 at 11:30 a.m.; the walk starts from the offices of Downer, Walters & Mitchener at 701 East Morehead Street.

Drop Everything and Read
During the month of November, SMS is participating in D.E.A.R. (Drop Everything and Read) during advisory time. Our scholars could use your old magazines to peak interest in reading. Please send your magazine donations to the front office for Ms. Goodwin.

Appropriate topics include travel, cooking and technology. Magazine examples include:

  • Time
  • People
  • Highlights
  • National Geographic

Games Needed for HAC
When inclement weather strikes, our scholars move indoors for HAC (recess) time. You can help keep the fun going inside by donating new or gently used games to play!

Examples of middle-school appropriate games include: playing cards, Uno, Jenga, Monopoly, Sorry, Trouble, chess and checkers.

Please send your donations to the front office to the attention of the PTO; games will be collected in the parent room. If donating gently used games, please ensure all pieces are included.

Club Volunteers Needed - Sign Up Today!
Clubs are a great way for scholars to work with different peers and learn new skills...and a phenomenal way for staff members to build relationships with scholars. SMS is excited to offer over 20 clubs to our scholars! The clubs range from academically-based clubs to sports-related. Scholars will be in the same club for one semester and may choose a new club in January.

We welcome any support from our parents and community members to assist with the clubs. If you are interested, please sign up here . Be sure to include your e-mail and phone number to receive updates. Please note: all volunteers must be cleared CMS volunteers; this must be done on a yearly basis. Click here to register as a CMS volunteer .
It's Okay to Judge (the Science Fair!)
From December 3-6, Sedgefield Middle scholars will flaunt their science know-how at our school science fair. To make this event a sure-fire success, volunteers are needed to help judge project oral presentations.

No science qualifications are needed (you'll be trained prior to judging) and all judges will receive a snack (Pavlovian conditioning, perhaps?) A variety of time slots are available to volunteer, so click here to sign up today. Science fair winners will be announced on December 12 at the Holiday Arts night.
