Families are welcome to bring their student with them on the tour and we welcome the opportunity to meet their child. Families should indicate who will be attending when they complete the sign up.
Thank You to Our Grounds Clean Up Volunteers!
On November 23, more than 20 current scholars, future Spartans and their parents showed up early and worked hard in the inclement weather to beautify our school grounds around the baseball field.

Thank you to all of our volunteers and to parent Andrew Thiel for coordinating the effort!
Judges Needed for Science Fair Presentations
From December 3-6, Sedgefield Middle scholars will flaunt their science know-how at our school science fair. To make this event a sure-fire success, volunteers are needed to help judge project oral presentations.

No science qualifications are needed (you'll be trained prior to judging) and all judges will receive a snack (Pavlovian conditioning, perhaps?) A variety of time slots are available to volunteer, so click here to sign up today. Science fair winners will be announced on December 12 at the Holiday Arts night.

Spartan Spotlight: Ms. Stephanie Sherer
Ms. Sherer is in her third year at Sedgefield Middle and is both our sixth grade counselor and seventh grade co-counselor. She works to meet the socio-emotional needs of students by providing them with individual and small group counseling, while doing daily check-ins for our scholars needing additional support. Her role also covers everything from coordinating programs with community partners and neighborhood feeder schools, to registering new scholars and helping them choose the appropriate course placement. She recently organized a fantastic pep rally for rising sixth graders, so they could come and learn more about Sedgefield Middle.

Prior to joining Sedgefield, Ms. Sherer was a counselor at Weddington High School. When asked her favorite thing about working in a middle school, she said, “Every day is different in the middle school world. Scholars are learning, growing and experiencing new things. I truly enjoy helping them work through all of life’s many transitions. I love seeing scholars ‘love’ school. School should be fun. Learning is fun.”

Operation Santa Paws Pet Supply Drive
Our Sedgefield Middle School Service Club is hosting a pet supply drive! This drive benefits the Humane Society of Charlotte and ends Friday, December 6. Each homeroom will have a box where scholars can place donated goods. The homeroom class with the most donations will earn a prize!

Items needed are:

  • Karo Light Syrup
  • Petsafe Martingale dog collar with quick span buckle
  • Petsafe easy walk dog harness
  • Petsafe nylon dog leash
  • Dry and wet dog food
  • Dry and wet cat food

  • All brand liquid detergent for sensitive skin
  • Glad tall kitchen drawstring trash bags (13 gallon)
  • Scotch-brite heavy duty scrub sponges

Please help our Service Club with this effort and donate supplies. If you have any questions, please e-mail Courtney Pierce. Thank you for your support!
Games Needed for HAC
When inclement weather strikes, our scholars move indoors for HAC (recess) time. You can help keep the fun going inside by donating new or gently used games to play!

Examples of middle-school appropriate games include: playing cards, Uno, Jenga, Monopoly, Sorry, Trouble, chess and checkers.

Please send your donations to the front office to the attention of the PTO; games will be collected in the parent room. If donating gently used games, please ensure all pieces are included.

Questions? Contact Kiley Thiel.

Club Volunteers Needed - Sign Up Today!
Clubs are a great way for scholars to work with different peers and learn new skills...and a phenomenal way for staff members to build relationships with scholars. SMS is excited to offer over 20 clubs to our scholars! The clubs range from academically-based clubs to sports-related. Scholars will be in the same club for one semester and may choose a new club in January.

We welcome any support from our parents and community members to assist with the clubs. If you are interested, please sign up here . Be sure to include your e-mail and phone number to receive updates. Please note: all volunteers must be cleared CMS volunteers; this must be done on a yearly basis.
