Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools continues to monitor the situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus). Currently, there are two confirmed cases in North Carolina, one in Wake County and the other in Chatham County. District leaders are aware that the situation could change quickly, and they want to be prepared.
For this reason, teams from CMS have met with other school leaders this week in Greensboro to share best practices, and staff members have been in constant coordination with city and county health and governmental leaders. Out of an abundance of caution, CMS has provided schools with guidance on travel for field trips for students and some restrictions on travel for staff to attend conferences.
Are you interested in reading with one of our amazing scholars once or twice a week? Our Reading Buddies Program is an amazing program matching a volunteer with one of our scholars to read books on a weekly basis together. Helping to model good reading, the Reading Buddies program provides success in literacy, students often become more positive about their ability to read and may also improve their reading skills. The school will have a selection of books for the scholar and Reading Buddy to select from based on the scholar’s reading level.
The times and days will be based on your availability and the scholar’s schedule.
Get in on all of the sports-related action at Sedgefield Middle by helping support our scholar athletes and our athletics department! It's quick and easy to sign up to help with everything from athlete snacks to on-field support.
New Clubs Starting Soon - Sign Up Today to Volunteer!
Clubs are a great way for scholars to work with different peers and learn new skills...and a phenomenal way for staff members to build relationships with scholars. SMS is excited to offer over 20 clubs to our scholars! The clubs range from academically-based clubs to sports-related. Scholars will be in the same club for one semester and may choose a new club in January.
We welcome any support from our parents and community members to assist with the clubs. If you are interested, please sign up here. Be sure to include your e-mail and phone number to receive updates. Please note: all volunteers must be cleared CMS volunteers; this must be done on a yearly basis. Click here to register as a CMS volunteer.
Let's Take a Field Trip!
Throughout the school year, Sedgefield Middle students are taking some amazing field trips. The best part? If you volunteer to chaperone, you get to experience them, too!
Trips include everything from taking our dance students to live performances to visiting the NASCAR Hall of Fame.
