Dear Spartan Community:
As we approach Thanksgiving, we should all take some time to reflect on what we have to be grateful for and all that God has blessed in our lives. As a school community, we are thankful for the talented teachers who serve in this ministry of education and to the families who trust us with their children every day. I can only pray that, when the students time here has ended, we have prepared them to be good citizens of the world. A friend of mine always ends her emails to me with the line, “Be Blessed and Be a Blessing”…I hope our students are a blessing to a world that needs such blessings.
The Church calls on all of us to proclaim the mission to serve the marginalized and the outcast. In the Diocese of Paterson, and here at DePaul Catholic High School, we take this obligation seriously. Our Thanksgiving Food Drive will aid those who need assistance in putting food on their table and our upcoming Christmas Gift Card Drive will make this Christmas a little bit brighter for some families who might not otherwise partake in the joy of Christmas. If you can participate in this drive, please do so. Information will be forthcoming.
Wednesday, November 13 saw our first Signing Day for 15 of our student-athletes from our baseball, softball, soccer, and lacrosse programs who will continue their athletic journey at the college level. The next signing day is December 4 and will include the student-athletes in our football program.
We invite all parents, families, friends, and alumni to our Mass of Thanksgiving which will be on Wednesday, November 27 at 10:45 AM. Prior to the Mass, we will recognize all students who achieved academic honors for Marking Period 1 and induct the members of our newly reinstituted Saint Vincent DePaul Theology Honor Society.
Please visit this newsletter on a regular basis to be brought up to speed on the happenings on campus. If you are a graduate and are in the neighborhood, please stop in and say hello.
A Blessed Thanksgiving to you, your family, your friends, and all that you encounter on this journey of faith.

The Fiscal School Year 2024-2025 Annual Appeal has now begun. Donating to the DePaul Catholic Fund during our “annual appeal” is the primary way for parents, grandparents, friends, and alumni to provide financial support to our school. The appeal will run from November until the end of April. The goal of this year’s appeal is $1,000,000: $500,000 to support financial aid, academic scholarships, our athletic teams, our campus ministry and clubs, and to provide funds to pay operating expenses not covered by tuition, and $500,000 to fund planned capital improvements and much needed repairs.
These funds are necessary to ensure that DePaul Catholic has the best possible teachers and administrators to educate and guide its students; maintains an affordable tuition; has safe, clean, and updated facilities and that we are providing our students with the best possible faith-based, college preparatory education we can.
We will be having online “Days of Giving” on Monday December 2 and Tuesday December 3 to help make supporting our annual appeal easy. We need everyone’s help and participation in this year’s appeal. Many hands make light work, so your participation at any level is needed and appreciated.
Thank you for your support!

November has been a time full of prayer, reflection, worship, and service for the Spartans!
The peer ministry team began the month attending a Youth Conference Day at St. Elizabeth University with Dr. ValLimar Jansen and Bishop Kevin Sweeney, The theme for the day was “Transformed” and our Spartans spent the day praising, reflecting, team building and worshiping the Lord. It truly was a faith filled day!

The Junior Spartans will be attending their retreat at the Cathedral Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark on November 21st. Our Spartans are blessed to learn the history of the cathedral, celebrate mass with Fr. Brian and have a spiritual reflection with Ms. Zaccardi. It will be a day full of spiritual growth.
Our Spartans will also embark on another “Midnight Run” with Mrs. Caughey and Ms. Sevean. The students will serve so many homeless people in NYC by distributing food and clothing. “I was naked and you clothed me.” Matthew 25: 34
As the month continues the Pro Life Club, along with the Sophomore class, will have collected over 200 baby items to donate to two wonderful organizations: Several Sources Shelter in Ramsey, NJ and The Passaic Neighborhood Center for Women in Passaic NJ. God bless our Spartans and their families for such generous hearts!
As the Spartans move along they continue praying the Rosary with Fr. Steve and participated in individualized masses with Fr. Frank.
Our DePaul family will be ending the month with a beautiful whole school mass on November 27th with Fr. Steve. All are welcome! “Give thanks to the Lord for he is good, his mercy endures forever!” Psalm 107: 1
Please continue to pray for the Spartans as the month of December begins!
May the Lord Bless you during this upcoming Advent Season!

The Interact Club's busiest season is here, starting with the Thanksgiving Food Drive followed by the Christmas Gift Card Drive to provide for local families in need. Students signed up in Theology classes to bring in these necessary items for a Thanksgiving meal as well as every day pantry fillers. Our DePaul Catholic families are always extremely generous! The Leo Club recently participated in the American Heart Association walk and the Breakthrough T1D Walk to raise funds and awareness. Members spent two beautiful mornings together getting their heart rates up as well as supporting survivors! They also wrote thank you cards to veterans, created treat packages and delivered them to local American Legions and VFWs to express their gratitude for the service of those who fight for our freedoms. The Leo Club will continue their service with a cleanup at Camp Marcella, participation in Wreaths Across America and serving at the Paterson Fire Department's Christmas Dinner for Sisters and Clergy.
The Entertainment Arts Club is thrilled to be performing at the Celebration of the Arts on December 10 in the cafe! The students' theatrical and photographic God-given gifts will be on display through their performances while we also enjoy the fine arts gallery and talents of the music ministry. It is sure to be an art-tastic good time!
On Friday, October 18th, DePaul Catholic High School hosted Bishop Kevin Sweeney for his annual Bishop’s Mass. The Bishop, clergymen, DePaul Catholic students, faculty, staff, parents, and students from Saint Gerard Majella School in Paterson and the Academy of Saint James in Totowa, all came together to honor Saint Luke the Evangelist on his feast day. The Bishop’s sermon focused on all of the victories we as God’s children have in our everyday lives. His message for all was to always strive to be a saint. The Bishop's banner was painted for the mass by DePaul Catholic students and Mrs. Carnevale.
The Italian club had a great start to the new school year! On Wednesday, November 13th, the club met with our Chef Joe and had the opportunity to make delicious homemade ravioli. Some of the members of the club got the hands-on experience of assisting Joe in the ravioli-making process. We learned about Italian cooking traditions and heard some of Chef Joe’s personal stories and tips. Thanks to Ms. Espinoza, Shannon Carpenter (cafeteria manager), and Chef Joe who were able to set up this wonderful experience and created a new tradition for the Italian club.
The Spanish Club enjoyed a Thanksgiving theme activity. Los chicos decorated mini pumpkins as emblems of gratitude.
