Principal's Message

Dear DePaul Catholic High School Community:

Welcome Home as we have successfully started the 2024-2025 School Year!!!

The DePaul Catholic High School community gathered for our Opening of School Mass on Friday, September 6 as we welcomed more than 170 new students into our Spartan Family.

We also welcomed 6 new faculty members: Erica Frodella; Jeffrey Goldfarb; Sara Loverich; Serena Mancini; Carolyn McGuire; Fiona Morrisey: and our new President Ted Gaffney ’82.

Just a few reminders that we ask you to please take note of:

When dropping off students in the morning, do not stop in the crosswalk and please pull as far down the driveway as you can to allow more cars to stop on the curb. DO NOT discharge passengers in the middle of the driveway; this creates a very dangerous situation.

All students are to be seated in their first period class at 8:00 AM. Please take this into account as you plan your travel time in the morning.

All students are to be in proper dress code – boys wearing a belt with their shirts tucked in and girls must be mindful of skirt length. All students must wear a uniform shirt under the quarter zip.

Back to School Night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 18 at 7:00 PM. Parents will start the evening in Homeroom (please get the room number from your student) for brief opening remarks and welcoming. You will receive your child’s schedule for the evening in Homeroom.

I read an interesting article over the summer about chronic absenteeism that is rampant across this country. I would ask that you please take a moment and read it here.

If you have any questions, please contact the school counseling office or any member of the administration. We look forward to seeing you on September 18 at Back to School Night.

Campus Ministry & Theology

Looking back at our summer months our Spartans were busy caring for St. Joseph’s of Wayne Hospital’s “Greenhouse” with the help of Mr. Justin Mooney, Mrs. Jean Caughey, Fr. Brian Ditullio and Ms. Annamaria Zaccardi. The Spartans weeded, picked herbs and vegetables, and watered the garden. As the Lord commands we are called to be stewards of God’s creation. At the same time our Seniors Aomi Kissoon and Katelyn Guinto volunteered their time serving the community at St. Joe’s by working in the kitchen, serving food at their BBQ outing and many other various ways.

“A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

Proverbs 11:25

On September 5, 2024, the Peer Ministers, NHS Students, and Student Council had a wonderful time greeting the incoming Freshmen, Transfer students, and Eighth graders. They participated in a beautiful Prayer Service led by Fr. Brian Ditullio. They enjoyed pizza together, and played interactive games. It was a day of community building.

As we continued to usher in the new school year, on September 6, 2024, we were blessed to celebrate our first whole school mass with Fr. Joey Matel, Fr. Frank Lennie and Fr. Brian Ditullio. Fr. Joey spoke to our students about starting the new school year with an open heart. Our students worshiped together and grew closer in their relationship with Christ. Our next mass will be the St. Vincent DePaul mass on September 27, 2024 @ 9:45 am. All are welcomed and we look forward to worshiping together.

Our theology classes have been busy working on Academic Integrity, Protecting God’s Children, and serving our community. We are truly blessed to have begun our school year with God’s grace and guidance. The campus ministry team and theology department is excited for a year full of spiritual growth and academic excellence.

Please continue to pray for the students, faculty and staff!

Many Blessings,

The Theology Department/Campus Ministry Team

Interact Club will be holding SLEEP OUT on 9/28/24 to support Covenant House. It begins at 6:00 pm in the gym with the Our Lady of Consolation Praise and Worship group. Covenant House will begin sign-in and programming afterwards, beginning at approximately 7:00 pm. The entire event ends on the morning of 9/28/24 at 6:00 am. We encourage all of our students to participate.  All student groups require an adult chaperone for the event. Adults may take turns in time frames that work for them. While pillows, cardboard and a variety of coverings are permitted, no stakes or similar items are to be driven into the turf.

Please join today!  https://www.sleepout.org/team/DePaulCatholicandFriends

Questions?  seveand@depaulcatholic.org

If you are unable to attend the event, please donate on the page or via our last two fundraisers!

  • BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT - 9/18 - Grab a bite before or after your visit to DP! Mention the DePaul Catholic fundraiser at Wayne Ale House and Pizza on Ratzer Road (all day dining, dine-in only) and Covenant House will receive 15% of your bill!
  • Positano family meal deal! For the entire month of September Positano on Berdan Ave has been generous to kick back a portion of every family meal purchased. Mention the fundraiser (take out or delivery only) and Covenant House receives $5 for every family meal deal! Ms. Sevean's fave - the Chicken Vodka Parm!

ALL funds from the various fundraisers throughout September go directly to Covenant House!

The Club Fair will be held during 4th period on 9/25. All students will have the opportunity to see all we offer at DePaul, in addition to academics and athletics. Extra-curriculars add to a student's high school experience and every student is encouraged to participate in at least one club while they are a Spartan!

Our first Midnight Run is 10/18. Please check with Mrs. Caughey or Ms. Sevean for specific needs each month, but a great guide for items that are always needed, especially clothing, can be found by following the link:  Midnight Run Items

Under the leadership of the Wayne Lions Club and Lions International, we now have a Leo Club! Official installation of the Leo Club will be held on September 20 for Leos, their families and distinguished guests, including NJ Lions Officers. Congratulations to our founding members and thank you to alum, Judy Gorski, for getting the Leos running here DP! If any parents or alumni are Lions and would like to attend, please contact Ms. Sevean at seveand@depaulcatholic.org.

Around the Halls

In Ms. Falcon's biology class and 8th grade science, students did the Marshmallow Challenge. They had to build the tallest, free-standing structure with the marshmallow on top using only uncooked spaghetti and tape. This lesson is used to introduce scientific method and processes.

Here's a photo of the Morgan’s Message table snapped at the DePaul Catholic vs. Good Counsel HS game. Face painting is always fun for our young Spartan fans!!

Another snapshot taken while getting ready to storm the field for DePaul's big win over Good Counsel HS (MD) 28-17.
