Volume 323

Words Matter and Actions Speak. True that…

As last week’s volume featured, Advocacy is a purposeful word:

For admirable leaders Elevating the Profession, thoughtfully assessing Advocacy’s versatile applications is, from right-fit vantage points, motivating.

Advocacy can be defined as: any action that speaks in favor of, recommends, supports, or defends a cause on behalf of oneself or others.

We contend Advocacy is at the ❤️ of practicing The Golden Rule. In an increasingly mass media and AI-driven world, empathetic vibes are win/win. The more things change, the more they stay the same and personal touches are in vogue. Indeed, as our population ages, old-fashioned values have a lasting impact. Make waves with humane advantages and do not keep them secret.

With heartfelt intentions, let us explore applying Advocacy’s multiple dimensions. Hand in Hand, we should get Better Together at speaking up.

Pursuant to Better Hearing is Better Healthcare goals, think about Advocacy’s multiple dimensions:

Who to Help: Target Audiences

  • Self-Advocacy: Persuade those trusting your sound advice to be self-aware in taking care of themselves.

  • Individual Advocacy: Encourage family members to look out for loved ones with chronic listening challenges.

  • Peer Advocacy: Take pride in leading by example within the Audiology & Vestibular Profession.

Where Influence Matters: The Settings

  • Family: Daily observation in real-world situations provides integral cues indicative of the need for expert audiological evaluation. See something, say something, and be a loving voice for rediscovering Joys of Hearing.

  • Workplace: Chronic difficulty in hearing colleagues, beyond associated frustration, can cause job performance to suffer. When daily struggles are evident, will someone care enough to share their personal experience in getting prescribed treatment, which empowered them to regain communication confidence?

  • Medical Community: When highly respected entities like the Mayo Clinic are global leaders in Whole Person Care, let's learn from their integrated model and build interdisciplinary alliances in our own geographic footprint, which benefits all involved. One of the best ways to get referrals is to make them, and being your patients’ advocate is impressive!

How: Use the Tools, On Purpose

Simply shown and consistently discussed in depth, our In Sight, In Mind programs are patient-centered to the core. Over the last 18 years, we’ve been careful listeners to progressive practices nationwide. One of the Powers of our Platform is making this collective intelligence readily available and practically actionable. Why spend excess time and $ to reinvent the wheel when you can roll with it, productively so.

In due course of Practice Growth Insights™, sometimes we are:

  • Presenting new strategies and content, while other times we are…
  • Investing in explaining what’s available and how to optimally utilize.

Case in point, about 2 years ago (time flies) we selected 1 Did You Know? comorbidity topic, Dual Sensory Loss, to exemplify the breadth and depth of print and digital formats which are available on ALL our Did You Know? topics. To see more and truly explore, here are volumes 223-238 for your easy reference. Yes, there IS a lot. That’s the point, and imagine the upside potential of educational awareness.

Why Advocate? In the timeless words of Dr. Seuss:

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,

Nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”
