Helping Out Those In Need.
For Jerry Lawrence's birthday this year, he asked for donations to the Lions Clubs International Foundation. Jerry chose this nonprofit because
Lions Club International 's mission is
"
to support the efforts of Lions clubs and partners in serving communities locally and globally, giving hope and impacting lives through humanitarian service projects and grants." (LCIF Facebook page)
Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) is the world’s largest service club organization, with over 1.4 million members in more than 200 countries and geographic areas.
"Since 1968, LCIF has funded humanitarian service through financial gifts from LCI members, the general public, and partners from the corporate, government and non-government sectors.
To build a more promising future for the world, LCIF is increasing its support of efforts to combat vision problems, provide valuable life skills to youth, respond to major catastrophes, and build programs to address the needs of at-risk and vulnerable populations. LCIF is also working to reduce the prevalence of diabetes and improve quality of life for those living with this disease, and is expanding its global causes to include childhood cancer, hunger, and the environment while raising funds to empower even more service from Lions." Jerry has surpassed his goal of $2,000 and has reached $2,483 and says "
In 2 years I'll be turning 50 and have a goal of

Historical Tidbit:
Law and Order before the 1800's
in
New England
|
Up until the early 1800's, enforcement of laws was done by individuals appointed by the church. Back then, the church was the legal authority. If one were accused of a crime such as theft, adultery, or breaking and entering, he was tried before the church elders. If he were found guilty, he was given the choice of a fine or lashes, but only after he confessed his crime to the members of the church. If it were a capital crime involving the death of a person, they were tried by the county in Plymouth.
Following the American Revolution, the church was taken out of the law enforcement business. Over the next 40 years, the towns moved their town meetings out of the churches and into town halls. Eventually towns would build their own jails.

Registering to Vote
You may submit an application to register or pre-register to vote in Massachusetts if:
-You are a citizen of the United States; and
-You are 16 years old; and
-You are not currently incarcerated by reason of a felony conviction.
If you meet the above requirements, you may apply online, by mail, or in-person. The deadline to register to vote in any election or regular town meeting is twenty (20) days prior to the date of the election or meeting. The deadline to register to vote in a special town meeting is ten (10) days prior to the special town meeting.
In order to register to vote online, you must have a signature on file with the Registry of Motor Vehicles. If you currently have a Massachusetts driver's license or state ID card, you may use the online voter registration application to register, update your address, or change your party affiliation. Voter registration forms submitted online must be submitted by midnight on the date of the voter registration deadline.
If you do not qualify to register to vote online, or if you would prefer to register by mail, you may download the
voter registration form . The form must be completed, signed, and delivered to your local election official. Voter registration forms submitted by mail must be postmarked no later than the voter registration deadline.
If you would like to register in-person, you may do so at any local election office, as well as the Elections Division of the Secretary of the Commonwealth’s office. Voter registration is also available at the Registry of Motor Vehicles and at certain public assistance agencies. Voter registration forms completed in-person are valid as of the day that they are signed.

Striking Gold: Fuller
at Fifty
Current exhibit at Fuller Art Museum until April 5, 2020.
As Fuller marks its fifty-year anniversary in 2019, we turn to gold to commemorate this milestone with Striking Gold: Fuller at Fifty in its Stone and Barstow galleries. This invitational project will explore the storied traditions, contemporary interpretations, skillful applications, and conceptual rigor of gold as an artistic material, while investigating the multitude of cultural, material, and sociopolitical associations. For the 57 selected artists, gold remains central to their work as they delve far deeper than embellishment or decorative effect. This landmark exhibition celebrates the museum’s rich past as we plan for our brilliant future—and shines a light on all things golden.
The exhibition is co-curated by Fuller Craft Museum Chief Curator of Exhibitions and Collections Beth McLaughlin and Suzanne Ramljak, an art historian, writer, curator, and former editor of Metalsmith magazine. Among the exhibition themes to be explored are avarice, vanity, consumption, environmental consequences, power, divinity, cultural and social measures, alchemy, repair/kintsugi, artifice, transformation, and the body. Exhibited works will include craft media as well as fine art mediums to fully reflect Fuller Craft’s dual histories as both a fine art institution and a craft museum.
