Jon's Corner

Hi
I attended the PCP Train-the-Trainer Training on Tuesday, May 21st, 2024. Here are some of my thoughts on this valuable training.
I find the problem I have with my PCP Meeting is that there is no pre-planning meeting ahead of time. It sometimes feels like I am unaware of what is going to happen that day. I also think when the day of your PCP comes, you don’t get enough say at your PCP meetings. I feel their Person-Centered plan isn’t really “Person-Centered” like it is supposed to be. We need to take back control of our meetings. The PCP is about us not them. I’m the EXPERT on myself!
The PCP is used to help you figure out how to get what you want/need and how to keep the good life you have. It is your choice who you want at your PCP meetings. No one should pick who will come to your PCP meetings except for you.

Also, your GOALS are important! Make sure you express them. Ask others involved to use easy words or put your PCP in plain language. Ask them not to go fast at your PCP. Have them slow it down so you can hear and understand every word being said at your PCP meetings. Ask a lot of questions at your PCP. If they don’t know the answer, I want them to get me the answer.

In closing, I am glad I got to take the PCP Train-the-Trainer Training. I encourage my peers to sign up to attend one near you. We all need to empower ourselves and each other.
