Valued Industry Partners –

On behalf of Governor Mike DeWine and Lieutenant Governor Jon Husted, I want to first thank you and your members for keeping essential supplies moving to our grocery and retail stores. It is imperative that we all work together during these unprecedented times, and ODOT is dedicated to doing our part to help.

I would also like to take this opportunity to remind you and your members that ODOT must receive vital information from your members within 24 hours of using the blanket permit. I cannot stress enough the importance of this information. ODOT must maintain the safety and integrity of our transportation network, and we must be able to keep track of where overweight and oversized loads are traveling so we can monitor the bridges and culverts that are bearing these extra loads. This duty is also critical to ensuring that we are able to keep essential supplies moving. At this time, we have only received the necessary information from one company about two trucks hauling extra water. Absent voluntary compliance, we will have choice but to work with the Ohio State Highway Patrol and its Motor Carrier Enforcement Unit to ensure compliance through other measures.

I understand and appreciate the rushed timelines you are facing, but I hope you can also understand the importance of this information in order for us to carry out our mission. I ask that you please share this message with your members so we can ensure compliance with the permits.

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me or the involved members of my team.

Regards,
Jack
