Today, we announce that our CEO, Amanda (Amy) Good has decided to retire as CEO, 37 years after playing a key role in founding Alternatives For Girls.

What started as an all-volunteer effort in southwest Detroit is now a nearly $10 million organization providing a wide range of services to girls and young women, many of whom have faced trauma, homelessness and exploitation.

“Now is the right time for this organization to undertake its first CEO transition, because AFG is in a solid place, poised to elevate its mission of helping girls and young women who have faced extreme trauma in their lives.

I am most proud of the way AFG has stayed true to its mission by focusing on providing for unmet needs as they evolve for vulnerable girls and young women, the unwavering commitment of the organization’s team members and the remarkable courage of the generations of girls and young women AFG has served. I see a future for AFG to break new ground, learn more, reach more, and to continue to partner with other organizations to facilitate real change among our target population.

I want to personally thank our community members, foundations, corporations, government officials, volunteers and staff members who have played an important role in the lives of girls and young women during AFG’s first 37 years, and who continue to invest in our mission.” – Amy

We are planning for the transition to be completed by October 1st, giving ample time for AFG to execute a careful search process, led by the Board and Isaacson and Miller: Executive Search.

Please continue to stay connected as we celebrate Amy’s amazing leadership and AFG’s impact in our community.
