IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM THE HEAD OF SCHOOL,
ST. ANDREW'S SCHOOLS
Aloha,

Please see the sad message from Dr. Ruth Fletcher (shared with permission from the family) regarding a student at St. Andrew's Prep. Please remember the Chiu family in your prayers and for the repose of the soul of young Alaric.

Yours faithfully,
Bishop Bob

Dear St. Andrew's Schools ʻohana,

Many of you have likely heard or seen news about the tragic kayaking accident at Kaʻaʻawa.

With deep sadness we want to let you know that the little boy who drowned was Alaric Chiu, a kindergarten student at The Prep. Alaric is the younger brother of Tristan Chiu who is in the second grade at The Prep.

We are in communication with the family and they have requested privacy while they grieve for their son.

We will have grief counseling services on hand Tuesday when students return to school.

Please find linked here an article entitled  Talking with Children About Death , which might be useful in discussing this sad event with your family.  In addition,  The Center for Parenting Education  offers guidelines for talking to children about traumatic events.

At a time like this, words cannot express the depth of our sorrow. Please join me in extending our collective thoughts and prayers to Alaric's family and the many others touched by this tragedy.

Chaplain Annalise penned this prayer for all of us.

Gracious God, in the face of loss and tragedy you continue to walk with us. We give you thanks for the life of Alaric Chiu. Enfold him into your loving arms and keep him in your care. Comfort all those who mourn, especially Alaric's family. Remind us of your presence as we celebrate the life of your beloved child. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

With a heavy heart,

Ruth
