Happy New Year! We hope everyone enjoyed a fun and cozy winter break filled with laughter and delicious food!
We’re excited to share updates to our menu and introduce new dishes to kick off the year!
Breakfast Updates
Limited oven space—and the popularity of our oatmeal muffins—has made Wednesdays an early challenge for Chef Evan! So, starting this month, we’re replacing Wednesday’s breakfast special (egg bites) with a potato, egg, and cheese scramble served with an English muffin.
In addition to the basic scramble, we’ll feature a weekly scramble special. A cheese-free version is also available by advance request (email evan.wilson@madronetrail.org).
Breakfast Specials for the Week of January 6th:
- Wednesday Scramble: Pork sausage*, onion & bell pepper
- Friday Crispy Grilled Cheese Roll-Up: Green chili
*We sourced local pork over the break from My Brothers’ Farm in Creswell. Their pigs graze on pasture and forest land, feeding primarily on hazelnuts and acorns, with no GMO, corn, or soy feeds. This helps us phase out industrial meats! All ground pork used in our program—breakfast and Italian sausage—will now come from this farm for the rest of the school year!
Foreign Fridays
We’re thrilled with the positive response to our Foreign Friday concept! Many students are becoming adventurous eaters, and we hope this sparks curiosity about other cultures. We’re excited to keep it going!
January Foreign Friday Specials:
- January 10th - Jamaica: Jerk Chicken or Tofu (mild) with Pumpkin & Potato Mash, Red Beans & Rice
- January 17th - No School
- January 24th - Bulgaria: Bulgarian-style Moussaka (potato, carrot, and beef casserole with a tangy egg & yogurt topping) and optional Shopska Salad (cucumber, roasted red peppers, kalamata olives, feta)
- January 31st - China: Cantonese Style Pork with Broccoli and Garlic Cucumber Salad (on the salad bar), served with chow mein noodles (pictured above)
We can’t wait to share these meals with you! See you soon!
