SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING THE START OF SCHOOL
Dear Amana Families:

As was announced by Dr. Looney, Superintendent of Fulton County Schools, the county will start the school year in a 100% remote learning environment. Amana Academy is keen on protecting our students and will follow the district’s lead, and we are committed to providing our students with an excellent learning experience grounded in the EL Education (expeditionary learning) model that focuses equally on high academic achievement, character development, and high-quality student work.

In addition to parent survey results, our COVID-19 Task Force, made up of parents, teachers, administrators, and board members, has provided valuable input to shaping our plans, including plans for remote instruction. These plans will build on learnings from last spring, as they will include more live interaction with teachers (synchronous instruction). We will put the full force of Amana’s organizational agility into ensuring students' needs are met, including special needs, 504 accommodations, advanced classes, and gifted programming. We also look forward to partnering with parents and external partners to find ways to support the social and emotional needs of students.

Given the current spread of COVID-19, the decision to go virtual is the right one. We hope to provide more details about our remote learning environment in the coming days. In the meantime, we ask you to adhere to CDC guidelines for staying safe and preparing for your children to learn from home starting August 17th. Thank you for your continued engagement throughout this ever-changing journey!
