STUDENT WALKOUT & SOLEMN BELL RINGING
THIS WEDNESDAY, MARCH 14, 2018

Students across the country are planning to walk out of class in support of the national movement against gun violence, and to honor those killed in the Parkland, FL, high school shooting. The walkout will take place on Wednesday, March 14, beginning at 10:00 AM and will last for 17 minutes in remembrance of the 17 people who died.

In a March 2 letter addressed to parents and students, the Hawai'i Department of Education advised schools to designate a walkout area for those who want to participate, supporting "students' Constitutional rights to a peaceful assembly and free expression."

Solemn Bell Ringing

Fr. David Gierlach, Rector of St. Elizabeth's, is encouraging all churches to join in solidarity with the student walkout, with a solemn bell ringing during the slated time of 10:00 AM-10:17 AM.

REMINDER:  NAMES FOR PRAYER LIST DUE BY MARCH 15

In the March 8 Diocesan E-News, a request went out for the names of those in our Diocese attending the March for Our Lives event in Washington, D.C., on March 24.  Please submit the names of those persons traveling to our Capitol by Wednesday, March 15, to news@episcopalhawaii.org.  A prayer list will then be distributed for churches to include in their Sunday service on March 18.

Seeking Donations:  There are students seeking financial assistance to join with others in the Washington, D.C. march.  If you would like to help, please e-mail Fr. David Gierlach.

A number of churches are also organizing local marches on their grounds or joining up with other community marches.  Please send follow-up photos and stories to be shared at the news e-mail address.
