Sunday Parking Around the Chicago Temple Building

Update on the Parking around the Temple

Since last Sunday, the Temple has again been in contact with CDOT and we have a temporary reprieve regarding Washington Street parking. Until Loop Link construction begins (within the next 2-3 weeks) on the lane changes, you will be allowed to park on both sides of Washington Street (between Clark and Dearborn Streets) on Sundays. CDOT will soon be posting new signage about parking on Washington and Clark Streets. We will keep you updated.

Also, CDOT clarified the diagonal parking on the east side of Clark Street (south of Washington). Please park by pulling up to the curb in a 45 degree angle. The street markings are permanent and are designed for traffic flow, not our special parking privileges for Sunday.

Parallel parking is still available on the east side of Clark Street (north of Washington) along the Daley Plaza. This parking, as in the past, is always dependent on the activities in Daley Plaza.

We encourage everyone to use the parking garage at 172 W. Washington St. and 179 W. Madison St. The cost on Saturdays and Sundays is $6 for 12 hours.

The yellow parking cards are still valid on Sundays and must be displayed in your cars anytime you are parking on the street on Sundays. Please use caution when parking. CDOT can issue parking restrictions and put signs up at any time.

We Need YOUR Help: Turning a Challenge into an Opportunity!                                                               The Temple has a wonderful opportunity to increase its visibility among visitors, tourists, residents and workers within the downtown community, and to show signs of hospitality to those who pass by our church on Sunday or throughout the week! Life is ever changing and the new Loop Link system is one such example where we can turn a traffic challenge into a real opportunity to make our church more visible; expand and develop our gifts of hospitality; and witness through our servant leadership to let others know they are welcome at a thriving and spirit-filled church at the corner of Clark and Washington Streets!

To make this happen, we will need a team of VOLUNTEERS, including you, on Sundays to greet and provide parking information on Washington and Clark Streets to those who need to know where they can park to attend our services. Please call or email Jonni Miklos, our Church Administrator, for more information and to sign up. You will be provided “parking” attire and all materials that you will need.

Permanent Changes We Know Are Coming
Right outside the church doors, major changes are in the works and will impact the way we commute, park and make deliveries to our building:
      Washington Street Changes:
  • Elimination of parking on Washington Street (once project construction begins)
  • Reduction in the number of lanes for vehicular use from 4 to 2
  • A new bus stop (with shelter) at the church’s entrance on Washington Street
  • A dedicated bike lane
  • No deliveries/drop offs allowed at the 77 W. Washington entrance
  Clark Street Changes:
  • Change from parallel to diagonal parking on the east side of Clark Street (between Washington and the church alley). This parking will be dedicated parking for our church only
  • Change from parallel to diagonal parking on the east side of Clark (between Randolph and Washington)
  • No parking on the west side of Clark (between Washington and Madison Streets)
  • All deliveries/drop offs must occur at the Clark Street church entrance
