Making the Best of What We've Got
: For the vast majority of students, parents, and educators around the world, the term "home/schooling" will take on a whole new meaning this coming August. Yes, the academic year will begin in our homes for the first time in the history of many schools, of which the lyrics of our beloved song --
Welcome to CNG: Our School, Our Home
- will come to life in a uniquely ironic way. Yet, I believe that we should not for a moment think of ourselves as victims of the present situation, especially since we are fully in control of choosing the safest path to open this school year. As our logo for 2020-21 signifies above, we are committed to joining hands together in order to safeguard each and every person in our community - it's what a loving family does to protect everyone at school and home. This key core value provides us with a clear north and leads us into our CNG theme for this year.
Character Strong: Learning Together, Caring for Each Other
: As we officially reconnect as a school community in two weeks, the true strength of our character will be put to the test. I challenge all of us to adopt the positive mindset of taking the current situation into our own hands and making the best of it despite the atypical events that surround us. Extending the notion of our Quote of the Week, John Wooden also reminded us of the following:
"
Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do".
Although the impact of Covid-19 might have us feeling somewhat out of control of our own lives, we actually have far more in control than we might think as a school community:
If we maintain focus on these three critical components fully within our control, then we will significantly mitigate the effects of coronavirus. We have the power to achieve these major goals along with the internal drive to do it. Although we might not have all of the answers right now, our collective knowledge, growth mindset, resiliency, and willpower along with our strong bond as a community will get us through whatever lies ahead.
Requirement for All CNG Community Members - Completion of an Important Health Survey: Directly related to Goal #3 above, as mentioned in my first communiqué, we are now ready to begin the process of gathering advance information related to student, family, and staff health data. These vital data will help us identify and better protect those community members who might have health issues that place them more at risk or are immunocompromised once we consider any form of hybrid model with gradual return to face-to-face learning. Please click on the appropriate following link (instructions for parents / instructions for staff) for full details on how to login to Skyward and complete the form for each student/family and/or if you are a CNG Staff member. Collecting these data will be vital for our advance planning. Finally, I would like to reemphasize that every family will have the ability to opt-out of on-campus classes for their children and all data will be highly safeguarded in strictest confidence aligned with data protection laws.
Transforming Challenge Into Opportunity - Glass Half Full
: The great World Cup soccer star and Olympic champion, Mia Hamm, perfectly captures the importance of maintaining a positive mindset and outlook when she said, "There are always new, grander challenges to confront, and a true winner will embrace each one."
The CNG Way
has never been about feeling powerless but rather about facing every challenge and improving ourselves individually and collectively each and every month. During my ten years here as your Director, we have faced multiple challenges, superseded every one, and kept improving our programs and institution. Given our commitment to learning together and caring for each other throughout this process, I believe that it can only make us better in the future.
We invite you to join us in making sure that every student will be a true winner this academic year - it's not only our primary duty but also our ethical obligation. We simply can't let them down because if we can't do it, who else can get the job done? Our kids are counting on us, and we are fully up to the challenge and excited to see our students again on August 11 to Zoom ahead!

: Para la mayoría de los estudiantes, padres de familia y educadores alrededor del mundo, el término "educación en casa" va a adquirir un nuevo significado a partir de agosto. Sí, el año académico empezará en casa por primera vez en la historia de muchos colegios, para los cuales la letra de nuestra amada canción -
Welcome to CNG: Our School, Our Home (Bienvenidos al CNG: Nuestro Colegio, Nuestro Hogar)
- cobrará vida de una forma excepcionalmente irónica. Sin embargo, creo que no deberíamos en ningún momento considerarnos víctimas de la situación actual, especialmente porque tenemos el control para escoger el camino más seguro para comenzar este año escolar. Tal y como significa nuestro logo del 2020-21 arriba, estamos comprometidos a unir nuestras manos para proteger a cada persona de nuestra comunidad -es lo que una familia amorosa hace para proteger a todos en el colegio y en la casa. Este valor fundamental nos provee un norte claro y nos lleva al tema de este año en el CNG.
Un Carácter Fuerte: Aprendiendo Juntos, Cuidando el Uno del Otro: Mientras oficialmente volvemos a conectarnos como comunidad escolar en dos semanas, la fuerza verdadera de nuestro carácter se pondrá a prueba. Los reto a todos a adoptar la mentalidad positiva de tomar la situación actual en nuestras manos y hacer lo mejor de ella a pesar de los eventos atípicos que nos rodean. Ampliando la noción de nuestra Cita de la semana, John Wooden también nos recordó lo siguiente: No deje que lo que no puede hacer interfiera con lo que sí puede hacer. Aunque el impacto del Covid-19 nos puede hacer sentir algo fuera de control en nuestras vidas, en realidad tenemos mucho más control del que creemos como comunidad escolar:
Si mantenemos nuestro enfoque en estos tres componentes críticos que están totalmente bajo nuestro control, entonces podemos mitigar significativamente los efectos del coronavirus. Tenemos el poder de lograr estos objetivos junto con la motivación interna de hacer las cosas. Aunque puede que no tengamos todas las respuestas en este momento, nuestro conocimiento colectivo, mentalidad de crecimiento, resiliencia y fuerza de voluntad junto con nuestro fuerte vínculo como comunidad, nos guiarán a través de lo que nos espere.
Requerimiento para todos los miembros de la comunidad del CNG - Diligenciar una importante encuesta de salud: En relación directa con el objetivo # 3, como mencioné en mi primer comunicado, estamos listos para comenzar el proceso de recopilación anticipada de información relacionada con la salud de estudiantes, familias y miembros del personal. Estos datos esenciales nos ayudarán a identificar y proteger mejor a aquellos miembros de la comunidad que tengan problemas de salud que los pongan en riesgo o estén inmunocomprometidos, una vez consideremos cualquier modelo híbrido y un retorno gradual al aprendizaje presencial. Por favor haga clic en el enlace correspondiente (instrucciones para padres de familia / instrucciones para staff) para ver detalles completos acerca de cómo llenar este formato en Skyward para cada estudiante/familia y/o si es un miembro del personal del CNG. Recopilar estos datos será vital para nuestra planificación anticipada. Finalmente, me gustaría volver a hacer énfasis en que todas las familias tendrán la opción de no participar en las clases presenciales para sus hijos/as y en que todos los datos serán protegidos con la más estricta confianza y de manera alineada con las leyes de protección de datos.

La gran estrella de la Copa Mundial de Fútbol y campeona olímpica, Mia Hamm, captó perfectamente la importancia de mantener una mentalidad y perspectiva positivas cuando dijo:
siempre hay retos nuevos y mayores por enfrentar, un ganador real los acepta todos
.
La Manera del CNG
nunca ha sido sobre el sentirse impotente, sino más bien, sobre enfrentar cada reto y mejorarnos a nosotros mismos individual y colectivamente cada mes. A lo largo de mis diez años acá como su Director, hemos enfrentado múltiples retos, superado cada uno y hemos seguido mejorando nuestros programas y nuestra institución. Dado a nuestro compromiso de aprender juntos y cuidarnos a lo largo de este proceso, creo que solo nos puede volver mejores en el futuro. Los invitamos a unirse a nosotros este año para asegurarnos de que todos los estudiantes sean los verdaderos ganadores en este año académico
- no solo es nuestro deber primordial sino también nuestra obligación ética. Simplemente no podemos decepcionarlos, porque si no lo hacemos nosotros, ¿entonces quién puede hacer el trabajo? Nuestros estudiantes están contando con nosotros, y estamos completamente a la altura del desafío y emocionados de ver a todos los alumnos nuevamente el 11 de agosto para Zoomear hacia adelante.
