During the times of our greatest challenges, we are often best served by a unique combination of being "pragmatic optimists". Although we need to face the realities of difficult times, we must also recognize that all of us have the inner strength to keep calm and carry on if we stick together as a community and support each other.

So, let's face it, please realize that at probably no greater time in the lives of our children, they are watching us very closely right now. They are learning from us every day, and they will likely model and reflect our actions in the future when they face their own challenges as adults. With that thought, what might it mean to act bravely in their eyes during this unprecedented time?

In the simplest terms, based on lessons learned over 2,000 years ago, we are what we do! As an example, we define our mission and vision at CNG in terms of developing  character and service  as well as helping all of our students achieve their own  individual potential for excellence . During Aristotle's time, this notion of excellence was actually translated as virtue , both intellectual and moral. For us today, our students develop intellectual virtue through knowledge and experience learned through great teaching as part of a strong educational program. Additionally, moral virtue most often results from the habits and routines learned from your own family´s customs and values. Therefore, our children will likely look back in time in the future and remember us for our actions during these days. In this way, a great challenge can bring even greater excellence if we focus on the positive outcomes that can result from it.

Yes, our children are watching us and learning from all of us each day. We need to be real with them about the current situation and its unknowns, but we also need to remain hopeful and optimistic in our conversations with them. If we remain true to our CNG core values and our family virtues, the current challenges can indeed transform into triumphs both at home and at virtual school. Time to be brave together in our efforts!

Condor Activities and Other Fun Events for Students During Easter Break:  I'm pleased to inform you that CNG will be offering Condor Activities online (for enrolled students) starting this Thursday. We will also be providing other non-academic events to keep students engaged and connected from Monday through Friday during Easter Break. These activities will be completely voluntary for students who would like to participate. Our Condor Activities staff and coaches will be organizing these events, and they will fill the gap as our academic staff takes a well-deserved break. A big thanks to our Condor and Athletics staff for their work in organizing these upcoming activities. Our Publications Department and Communications Work Team will also be scheduling some daily events to keep kids occupied from Monday to Friday during the break. You will be receiving more information later this week about these fun upcoming activities.

Brief Social-Emotional Check-ins on Monday and Wednesday Mornings with Students (No Academic Lessons Next Week):  CNG will not be programming any mandatory academic classes during Easter Break. We simply want teachers and counselors to schedule a brief check-in time with their students on Monday morning and Wednesday morning (April 6th and 8th). Teachers will be working with their building principals to structure this brief morning check-in process on those two days, which will be completely voluntary for students who would like to participate.

As a school, we need to take this important step for two key reasons:

1. Our students are greatly benefiting from the social-emotional support of their teachers, counselors, and specialists. We want to make sure that they have this brief check-in time to keep these supports in place for them rather than going nine days without any social connection among our students and their peer groups.

2. We also need to make up two lost days on our academic calendar (one from the strike on November 28 and one from the all-day staff development on March 10). The Ministry of Education issued a special Directivo #3 on March 20, which clearly states that schools must complete their approved calendar dates as submitted to the Secretaría de Educación. These two half-days with teachers connecting with their students K4-12 during the morning will serve to fulfill this requirement along with the special activities provided during the rest of the holiday week. 

In closing, I want to extend my thanks to everyone for your helpful and overwhelmingly positive feedback on our school-wide survey last week. We have made several adjustments to our DL plan based on your honest feedback. We have much to celebrate as a community in managing these unusual times with great solidarity and positivity. Your generosity last week resulted in nearly 400 food baskets delivered to the CFNG Hogar families. Now that ' s showing who we are by what we do! As of today, I'm also pleased to share the positive news that we have not received on our internal reporting system a single tested and confirmed case of Covid-19 among our students or staff. Thank you for observing ongoing physical distancing while remaining socially connected as a community. 

Please remember our Community Pledge to ensure the reporting of confirmed Covid-19 cases to the Secretaría de Salud and also consider voluntarily self-reporting to CNG for internal tracking purposes. Pensamiento para la semana

¡Asustado en el cuerpo,

A través de nuestros desafíos más grandes, a menudo nos sirve una combinación única de ser "optimistas pragmáticos". Aunque tenemos que enfrentar las realidades de los tiempos difíciles, también debemos reconocer que todos tenemos la fortaleza interior para mantener la calma y seguir adelante si nos sostenemos juntos como comunidad y nos apoyamos entre todos.  
 
Entonces, enfrentémoslo, por favor tengan en cuenta que es probable que, más que en cualquier otro momento en las vidas de nuestros hijos, nos están mirando muy de cerca ahora. Están aprendiendo de nosotros cada día y probablemente copiarán y reflejarán nuestras acciones en el futuro cuando enfrenten sus propias dificultades como adultos. Con eso en mente, ¿qué podría decir actuar con valentía frente a sus ojos a lo largo de este momento sin precedentes?

En los términos más simples basados en lecciones aprendidas hace más de 2,000 años, ¡somos lo que hacemos! Por ejemplo, definimos nuestra misión y visión en el CNG en términos del desarrollo de carácter y servicio, así como de ayudar a todos nuestros estudiantes a llegar a su máximo potencial para la excelencia. En los tiempos de Aristóteles, esta noción de excelencia realmente era traducida como virtud, tanto intelectual como moral. Para nosotros hoy, nuestros estudiantes desarrollan virtud intelectual a través del conocimiento y la experiencia, aprendidos de una gran enseñanza que es parte de un programa educativo fuerte. Adicionalmente, la virtud moral generalmente nace de los hábitos y rutinas aprendidos de sus propias costumbres y valores familiares. Por lo tanto, nuestros niños probablemente mirarán hacia atrás en el futuro y nos recordarán por nuestras acciones en esta época. Un gran desafío puede traer mayor excelencia si nos enfocamos en los resultados positivos que podrían resultar de él.
 
Sí, nuestros niños nos están mirando y están aprendiendo de nosotros cada día. Necesitamos ser honestos con ellos acerca de la situación actual y sus incertidumbres, pero también necesitamos mantener la esperanza y un sentido de optimismo en nuestras conversaciones con ellos. Si nos mantenemos firmes en los valores fundamentales del CNG y nuestros hábitos familiares de virtud, los desafíos actuales se pueden convertir en triunfos tanto en la casa como en el colegio virtual. ¡Es hora de ser valientes en nuestros esfuerzos conjuntos!
 
Condor Activities y otros eventos divertidos para estudiantes en Semana Santa: 
Me complace informarles que el CNG va a estar ofreciendo Actividades Co-curriculares (Condor Activities) en línea para los estudiantes inscritos a partir de este jueves. También estaremos proporcionando opciones de otros eventos no-académicos para mantener a los estudiantes conectados de lunes a viernes durante Semana Santa. Estas actividades serán completamente voluntarias para los estudiantes que quisieran participar. Nuestro personal de Condor Activities y entrenadores estarán organizando estas actividades y llenarán el vacío mientras nuestro personal académico se toma un merecido descanso. Muchas gracias a todos los equipos de Condor Activities y personal de Athletics por su trabajo organizando estas actividades. Nuestro Departamento de Publicaciones y el Equipo de Comunicaciones también estarán planeando algunos eventos diarios para mantener a los niños ocupados de lunes a viernes en el descanso. Estarán recibiendo más información acerca de estas divertidas actividades a lo largo de esta semana.
 
Breves encuentros con los estudiantes por el bien socio-emocional las mañanas del lunes y el miércoles (no hay clases académicas la próxima semana):  el CNG no va a programar ninguna clase académica obligatoria a lo largo de Semana Santa. Simplemente queremos que los profesores y consejeros planeen un pequeño encuentro con sus estudiantes el lunes y el miércoles por la mañana (abril 6 y 8). Los profesores estarán trabajando con los directores de escuela para estructurar estos procesos de encuentro esos dos días,  que serán de carácter voluntario para los estudiantes que deseen participar.
 
Como colegio necesitamos tomar este paso importante por dos razones claves:
 
  1. Nuestros estudiantes se han visto altamente beneficiados por el apoyo socio-emocional de su profesores, consejeros y especialistas. Queremos asegurarnos de que tengan estos pequeños momentos de encuentro para que esos apoyos se mantengan en pie y no tengan que pasar nueve días sin ningún tipo de conexión entre compañeros y grupos de apoyo.
     
  2. También necesitamos reponer dos días perdidos en nuestro calendario académico (uno por el paro del 28 de noviembre y otro por el día completo de aprendizaje profesional el 10 de marzo). El Ministerios de Educación emitió el Directivo #3 el 20 de marzo, en donde claramente afirma que los colegios deben cumplir con las fechas de calendario aprobadas tal y como fueron presentadas a la Secretaría de Educación. Estos dos medios días en los que los profesores se conectarán con los estudiantes desde K4 hasta 12 durante la mañana servirán para cumplir con este requisito junto con las actividades que estarán ocurriendo a lo largo de la semana.
 
En conclusión, quiero agradecerles a todos por su retroalimentación útil y generalmente positiva en nuestra encuesta general la semana pasada. Hemos hecho varios cambios en nuestro plan de Aprendizaje a Distancia con base en sus comentarios honestos. Tenemos mucho que celebrar como comunidad en el manejo que le hemos dado a estos tiempos inusuales con gran solidaridad y positividad. Su generosidad la semana pasada dio el resultado de la entrega de casi 400 canastas de comida a las familias del CFNG. Eso es demostrar quienes somos a través de nuestros actos! Me alegra también informarles que, hasta el momento no hemos recibido, en nuestro sistema de reportes internos, ningún reporte de un caso probado y confirmado de Covid-19 entre nuestros estudiantes y personal. Gracias por cumplir con las medidas de distanciamiento físico mientras nos mantenemos socialmente conectados como comunidad.

Por favor recuerde nuestra Promesa y Compromisos con nuestra comunidad de reportar casos confirmados de Covid-19 a la Secretaría de Salud  y voluntariamente reportaremos al CNG para conteos internos.
