Ice Fishing!!!
|  | Although this is not a world record, it is an awesome Pumpkin Seed. The ice fishing is outstanding but a bit cold. This year has been fun but I only wish that I had more time to do so... Come up and visit us and give it a try. The kids will absolutely love it!!!

It is almost impossible to do this at Haven North but it is possible that a bunch of owners could purchase a plot of land and erect storage units. Looking to the future, our challenges are even greater. Over the next two years, the State of Wisconsin faces a biennial budget deficit of $3.6 billion.
While some of these financial challenges may be attributed to the slowing of our economy, the reality is that these problems were exacerbated by poor budgeting decisions approved and promoted by past elected leaders...
The e-mail is long but what I read it to be is a cut in funding to municipalities and counties. We shall see... I will keep you posted

Bad News...

The two biggest weekends for our rental program are New Years and Presidents Day. We lost both of them this year due to the rain and warm conditions. This is the first time that I can ever remember the snowmobile rental businesses not being able to rent snowmobiles because there was not enough snow on our trails...

Suggested Bylaw Change

Our Insurance Agent is asking that we change our bylaws so that Haven North is not responsible for every deductible on a claim. Here is what he is suggesting: "Each unit shall occupy that space contained within a boundary comprised of the interior unfinished surface of its peripheral walls and the interior unfinished surfaces of the base flooring and the ceiling. Unfinished surfaces shall exclude such things as paint, wallpaper, finished flooring, appliances, and built-in fixtures. The boundary of each unit shall also include the inside surface of all of its doors and windows which are located in peripheral walls, and all such doors and windows shall be deemed to be without the unit. All boundaries shall vary with sag and accretion involving normal and expectable expansion, sag and structural adjustment. The units shall not include pipes, wires, conduits, chimneys, flues, vents or utility lines which are used for or serve more than one unit but shall include plumbing and lighting fixtures located in the units."

Governor Walker Flexing His Muscles...

"We must take immediate action to ensure fiscal stability in our state," Walker said when he announced the bill last week. "This budget repair bill will meet the immediate needs of our state and give government the tools to deal with this and future budget crises."
The bill passed the legislature's budget-writing committee just before midnight on Wednesday with no Democratic support.
The biggest teachers' union in the state, however, claims the legislation will strip away the rights of workers. This may or may not affect the lodging industry but we have had some cancellations from teachers from Madison because of this. I only put this in the newsletter because it is interesting to see how it affects Haven North...

Governor Walker on Tourism in WI

In order to fulfill Wisconsin's tourism potential, we must reestablish tourism as a key component of economic development. This is why as Governor, I will make tourism a priority, and encourage the nation and the world to come back to Wisconsin... again and again."
Let us all hope, for the sake of tourism and the lodging industry that Governor Walker does not cut any additional money to the WI Department of Tourism... I was a supporter of Governor Doyle but he did but the budget of the WDOT. This was not good for all of us that are trying to make tourism thrive in Northern Wisconsin...

HN Owners Survey Preliminary Results

We only had a bit over one half of the owners respond to the survey but preliminary results indicate that there are two things that the owners of Haven North want to see, a new billboard and continue resurfacing parking lots. I would like to give owners another month to fully complete surveys and then I will release the results. Remember that this is only a survey and anything concrete would have to be voted upon by all owners. I will have some final numbers in the next newsletter. Thanks to everyone that responded to this survey! The Haven North Board wants to take Haven North in a direction that is agreed upon by every owner. Thank you to the Haven North Board for all of their volunteer time and concern for the future!!!
