PTSD and Maternal Mental Health
This month, My Brain & My Baby Clinical Director, Sheila Kubota, shed light on the importance of
being aware of PTSD and recognizing symptoms of PTSD are treatable like all maternal mental health conditions are treatable. Read Sheila's spotlight on social workers in our new blog, "Clinical Corner".
Sycuan
Thank you to the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation for your sponsorship support at the 14th annual Miracle Babies 5K! Sycuan firmly believes in giving back to the local community and supports numerous charities ranging from social and health services to the arts and the environment. Thank you, Sycuan, for supporting our programming initiatives benefitting perinatal moms and parents with hospitalized infants.
The Home Depot
Thank you to Home Depot for bringing your "Kids Workshop" to the Miracle Babies 5K! The Home Depot’s Kids Workshops create a hands-on learning experience that sparks creativity, promotes problem-solving and encourages social interaction for the youngest generation of DIYers.
Since March 2020, The Home Depot has donated more than 1.6 million workshop kits to individuals, community events and more than 100 nonprofit organizations through the Home Depot Foundation.
Welcome Marina!
Meet our newest team member, Miracle Mom, past program beneficiary, and now Miracle Babies' Driver, Marina!
Not only does she unite parents with their hospitalized infants, Marina knows firsthand the struggles moms with hospitalized infants face. Marina's son was born with a heart defect in 2017. She is caring, passionate, and a tremendous asset to our team.
Miracles of the Month:
Miracle Baby O"Shae and
Miracle Mom Jennifer
Baby O'Shae was born on March 2, 2022, at 31 weeks weighing 3 lbs. 8 oz. at birth. O'Shae was born early prematurely due to preeclampsia and complications from a high-risk pregnancy. His mom Jennifer is the recipient of a heart and double lung transplant.
Jennifer is no stranger to having complex medical conditions and long hospitalizations. She was born with congenital heart disease (CHD) and is the recipient of a heart and double lung transplant.
We had the privilege of driving Jennifer to the NICU daily to be with O'Shae. On these drives is when we learned about her incredible journey to become a mom and how dedicated she was to seeing her baby boy every day in the NICU.
After 56 days in the NICU, O'Shae and Jennifer are both home and thriving!
