First Unitarian Church of Wilmington Discussion of the Proposed Changes to the Principles, Sources, and Purposes of the Unitarian Universalist Association

Some of you may have already heard that the UUA Board, in keeping with its bylaws, established a Commission to consider possible amendments to our Unitarian Universalist Principles, Sources, and Purposes. Since the Principles, Sources, and Purposes of the UUA are included in Article II of the UUA Bylaws, this Commission has been called the Article II Study Commission.
As a congregation, following the worship service, we will have an opportunity on Sunday, April 2, 2023 from 12:00-1:15 p.m. to discuss these proposed changes. In preparation for this discussion in our congregation, please come prepared for the meeting by reading this Report ahead of time.
Congregations have been encouraged to have conversations to gather input from our members to inform our delegates to the UUA General Assembly, which this year will be held from June 21 - 25, 2023, online or in-person in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. This General Assembly is the annual gathering of Unitarian Universalists to conduct business, attend workshops and worship services and consider ways to live out our mission and principles.
There could be some amendments to these proposed changes from delegates and the UUA Board. As amended, the final version of these proposed changes must receive a simple majority vote to move forward for a final vote at the 2024 General Assembly. At the 2024 General Assembly, it must receive a 2/3rd majority vote to be adopted as the new Article II of the UUA Bylaws.
