Nine Canadian municipalities have won national awards of excellence from the Canadian Association of Municipal Administrators (CAMA). The awards were presented in the areas of innovation, environmental leadership and sustainability, professional development, and collaboration during an Awards of Excellence Ceremony held on May 31, 2023 at the 2023 CAMA Conference at the Deerhurst Resort.
Winning efforts included a systems-based corporate planning effort, a roundtable to better understand local needs and to facilitate the exchange of knowledge and resources, a leadership effort in digital democracy and online voting, a renewable energy project, a park development that placed a high priority on maintaining natural features, a project that determined the value of natural assets, the development of a project leading to the creation of a culture of continuous improvement, an Indigenous leadership table, and a regional childcare project.
“On behalf of the CAMA Board, I am pleased to recognize the excellence being showcased by municipal governments and their partners in the areas of innovation, environmental leadership and sustainability, professional development, as well as the area of collaboration,” said Bev Hendry, CAMA President and CAMA Member-At-Large (For Municipalities with Populations Under 100,000) and CAO for the Township of West Lincoln, ON. “I am truly impressed by the number of great things going on from coast to coast to coast to build better municipalities.”

“For decades, the CAMA Awards of Excellence have recognized the achievements of local governments and their senior staff in the development and implementation of successful programs, projects or services,” said Vincent Lalonde, Chair of the 2023 CAMA Awards, as well as CAMA Board Representative for British Columbia and City Manager for the City of Surrey, BC. “This year we received 35 award submissions. Congratulations to the winners and everyone who took the time to enter the awards program.”
