The Rev. Rita Nelson

St. Peter’s Church, Lewes

What attracts you to the ministry of this office?
I have always believed serving the church at the parochial and diocesan levels was important. I will rotate off the Commission on Ministry this year and will now have the time to serve in this capacity. This particular office attracts me because I feel I have specific gifts to balance accountability with reconciliation, redemption, and forgiveness.

What gifts and interest will you bring to this ministry?
My gift is an open and fair mind to see both sides of an issue and assess how best to determine accountability at various levels that are fair and just. I also have the gifts of compassion, empathy, and patience to guide me in the discernment of reconciliation paths with mercy and grace. In addition to being a priest, I am a trained Stephen Minister and have a certificate in spiritual guidance from the Franciscan University of Steubenville, which I believe will be assets in this ministry.
