Special Edition - 2023 SANR Classic Golf Tournament

The 23rd Annual SANR Classic was a tremendous success thanks to our wonderful sponsors, teams, faculty, staff, students, and the SANR Alumni Council!

Here is the Who, the Why, and the WOW of the tournament!

The WHO!

WHO made the Classic Successful? Many companies, organizations, friends, individuals, faculty, staff, and students contributed to the success of the 23rd Annual SANR Classic Golf Tournament.

Our Dean, Dr. Mark Kistler, and ABAC's President, Dr. Tracy Brundage, would like to say a special thank you to our sponsors and teams! Their tournament support will provide academic and enrichment scholarships to deserving students along with professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff.

The Sponsors - Sponsorship levels ranged from our Century Level Hole Sponsors to our Diamond Level Sponsor. In addition, we had several Special Sponsors who helped provide shirts, golf balls, lunch, snacks, and special prizes for our golfers. We also received several beautiful items for our Silent Auction, along with three amazing prizes for 10th Annual Ball Drop.

The Teams - We had the largest number of teams in the history of the SANR Classic! We had 25 teams compete for the honor of being the 2023 SANR Classic Winning Team. These photos reflect the spirit of the day - each team was on a mission to enjoy the day and win the tournament!

Here are the team photos...

The Winning Team of the 2023 SANR Classic Golf Tournament was

Triangle Chemical Company!

Each winning team member will receive a special trophy designed by Dr. Alex McLemore and the Agricultural Technology Management program and students.

In addition, we had two special competitions during the tournament - Longest Drive and Closet to the Pin. The winners of these competitions received a Bridgestone Golf Bag. Jantzen Bryant, an ABAC Turf student, won the Longest Drive Competition. He played on the Landscapes Unlimited Team. Kyle Snodgrass of Ag Leaders was the Closet to the Pin competition winner.

The 10th Annual Ball Drop - We sold over 750 golf balls to individuals who wanted a chance to win one of our three fantastic prizes. The prizes for the ball drop were all donated, allowing the revenue from all the balls purchased to go directly to the profit of the SANR Classic. The prizes and their contributors were as follows:

Each ball sold had a unique number and was placed in the bucket of a front-end loader. The balls were dropped onto the green at Forest Lakes Golf Course Hole # 2. The ball that rolled closest to the hole on the green was declared the winner and had first selection from the prizes. The second ball had the next selection from the prizes. The third ball received the remaining prize.

Our winners were Corey Davis, the Panama City Beach Vacation; Ben Lancaster, John Deere Lawn Mower; and Judy Thoron/Andrew Thoron, the Photography Session. Congratulations to each of these winners.

The SANR Alumni Council - Our Alumni Council members are instrumental in making the tournament successful. From contacting sponsors and teams to providing in-kind donations, they do whatever is necessary to ensure that the needs of the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources are met. Many of our council members were onsite during the tournament.

Thank you to our Alumni Council members; your commitment makes a difference!

Our "WHY"

Why do we hold the SANR Classic Golf Tournament? Our "Why" is our students! We have many phenomenal students with bright futures in agriculture and natural resources. We are sure that many of them will have a positive impact on the industry over the course of their careers.

The tournament is mainly student-run. Our students were on site at the tournament assisting with check-in, distributing drinks and snacks, serving as hole hosts, hosting lunch, monitoring competitions, and calculating the scores. They also handle the ball drop. Our students are indeed the heart and soul of the tournament!

The various student groups who assisted were the SANR Leaders, Turf Club, Agripreneurs, Collegiate FFA, Ag Education, Wildlife Society, Young Farmers and Ranchers, MANRRS, Agronomy Club, Forestry Club, Cattlemen's Association, and ACT.

The smiles on their faces during the tournament let you know just how much they appreciate the commitment of our sponsors, teams, and supporters.

The WOW!

The WOW of the 23rd Annual SANR Classic Golf Tournament is that we raised over $43,500 from our sponsors, teams, ball drop, and silent auction! These funds will be utilized for student academic and enrichment scholarships and professional development opportunities for our faculty and staff.

Our ultimate goal is to graduate the next generation of Agriculture and Natural Resources leaders!

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU

School of Agriculture and Natural Resources!
