Standing With Our CDC Colleagues

The California Immunization Coalition stands in solidarity with our public health colleagues and the staff members at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta following the horrific events that took place on Friday, August 8th. at the CDC Roybal Campus.

As public health advocates we are united in supporting them and call for the Department of HHS to take steps to ensure the safety of public health professionals and address the dangerous misinformation and unsubstantiated inferences that are leading to threats and violence.

National Immunization Awareness Month

Our Vaccine Heroes

National Immunization Awareness Month (NIAM) continues through August and we are delighted to use this opportunity to highlight the great work of our many partners and say thank you.

A great example is Sanjay Patel, Pharmacist at Haller's Pharmacy in the Bay area. In addition to his important work as a pharmacist and educator, he is an amazing supporter of CIC and the California Department of Public Health and many other vaccine related projects, like the California HPV Vaccine Roundtable. We could not do it without partners and professionals like Sanjay Patel.

Thank you to Voices for Vaccines for creating the NIAM kit with messages and tips for engagement on social media. Check it out and be sure to tag @Voices4Vaccines and @immunizeca in your posts.

Former CDC Director William Foege: How public health can fight back in a time of dangerous nonsense

Three steps to surviving the drought of principles, values, and facts

CIC highly recommends this article in STAT today from the world renowned epidemiologist, physician and author, Dr. William Foege. If you are not a current subscriber to STAT, you can access up to 3 articles a month by signing up. (They have been doing great work covering health.)

It's an important read and calls upon all of our public health officials to stand up for the science and for each other, in Dr. Foege's words:

"We will live through this drought of values, principles , and facts and again apply our talents to improving gloval health and happiness. Do not back down."
