Ramp Up to COP 26:
Oregon Faiths 4 Climate Justice
October 15–18,
Green Circles Launch October 19
Dear friends

Join us for two exciting upcoming initiatives: Oregon Faiths 4 Climate Justice October 15–18, and the launch of Green Circles October 19.

The weekend of October 15–18, join with others across Oregon and faith communities around the world to speak up for climate justice ahead of the United Nations Conference of the Parties, COP26, which will begin in Glasgow, Scotland, UK at the end of October.

We are hosting Oregon Faiths 4 Climate Justice (along with global partner GreenFaith) with a focus on divesting from fossil fuels here at the state level and all the way up to the UN.
You can join this work in the following ways:

  • Oct. 15–17: Share about fossil fuel divestment in your worship service the weekend of October 15–17. Register to receive more information and support materials.
  • Create a short video with your faith community, asking state Treasurer Tobias Read to divest Oregon's retirement funds from fossil fuels. Send the video to us so we can compile them and send them to the Treasurer.
  • Take a still photo and post it to social media and tag with #Faiths4ClimateJustice and #DivestOregon
  • Oct. 18, noon–1:00pm, Vigil for Divestment: For those in the Portland area, join as we pray and meditate outside a Wells Fargo Bank that invests in the Line 3 pipeline and other fossil fuel projects. Register to receive more details.
  • Register your own event with GreenFaith!

Monthly Green Circles Launch October 19
Green Circles will meet every third Tuesday of the month, October 2021–June 2022. Join us for our inaugural Green Circles gathering on October 19 at 6:30pm. Register here.

This fall, we will be starting monthly Green Circles, a place to learn about issues of climate, faith, and justice, and how to take action with others.

Join as a team or as an individual. Teams will be given time to work together toward local goals, and individuals will be able to join teams based on geographical region or interest area.

Starting in January, we will be encouraging congregations to read Randy Woodley's new book, Becoming Rooted: 100 Days of Reconnecting with Sacred Earth. We will be collaborating with EcoFaith Recovery and Eloheh Indigenous Center for Earth Justice. This will be a great way to begin or build momentum for a green team in your community.
