Special Infrastructure Update: May 16, 2023

Greetings Bradley Beach-

Greetings Bradley Beach-

I think we are seeing a consistent streak of good weather- hopefully it continues….

This is a special edition of the weekly update with a focus on the Outfall Pipe project on Ocean Park and McCabe Avenues only; and the temporary impacts on the Evergreen Avenue Beach.  We will continue to provide updates at least weekly so that you can stay informed.

The Outfall Pipe on Ocean Park/McCabe Avenue beaches has progressed well and we are now into week 5. This week, we finish removal of the existing pipe and we will then begin to install the new pipe as the shipments come in. The final steps are then the removal of the sheathing, clean up and demobilization. All activities are weather dependent and subject to material deliveries being on time. So far, so good! On schedule and no surprises. We have every confidence we will be complete before July1.

We have decided that we will close the entrance (not the beach) at Evergreen Avenue from now until the latter part of June.  Residents/ visitors will be asked to use the Second Avenue entrance for these few weeks.  The distance between the two entrances is less than 100 steps.  The Evergreen lockers will be available and as you can see in the picture above, are set up perpendicular to the beach.  The Evergreen Avenue Beach will be open for your enjoyment.

As you can see in the picture above, the entrances to Ocean Park and McCabe beaches are clear and open.  You will just be able to use the north part of Ocean Park beach and the south part of McCabe beach until the project is completed in the latter part of June.

A few other points I want to emphasize-

  1. The safety of our residents is our #1 priority; and acting to eliminate sinkholes on the Ocean Park and McCabe beaches has happened as expeditiously as possible.
  2. We decided at the start of the project to use the Evergreen Avenue entrance to minimize Promenade damage/ interruption.  It has proven to be a good decision.
  3. After our review yesterday with the project team, we are confident that we will minimize disruption to our beach season; and have safe beaches for all.
  4. We will have only partial beach mat placement from Ocean Park Avenue to Evergreen Beaches until the project is complete.  At that time, we will have final placement of lockers and mats installed as soon as possible.

We have a lot to be thankful for here in Bradley Beach, and much to celebrate. We will continue to focus on Service and Progress as a Municipal Team.

Thank you- and see you around town!
