SAVE ANIMALS

Rescue Stories from the field:

Galpaya

Generous supporters like you have helped VI save countless animals like Galpaya, a young bull elephant who's mouth was injured by an illegal jaw bomb. Farmers put out these bombs to kill or injure wild boars and other animals considered pests so they don’t eat or damage their crops. At the Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka, our team cared fo Galpaya's wounds and prepared his specially formulated food until he made a full recovery.

Vl Vet Spotlight:

Dr. Grace Watene - Kenya

Dr. Grace Angeline Watene is a veterinarian with a MSc in Veterinary Public Health at the University Of Nairobi, and a MSc in Veterinary Epidemiology at the University Of London; Royal Veterinary College (UK). She is VI’s Kenya Representative and the Director of the Kenya Vet Training Program.

Why is Dr Watene excited about working with VI?

“I am very excited to work with a world-serving organization. Their selfless efforts to see the good in each person. The world class knowledge and expertise shared to us to help our animals. We are because they are."

To support Dr. Watene and her work, give someone the honor of being a veterinarian hero by recognizing them with a gift that creates a lasting impact on the lives of animals and the people who care for them. Make somebody a veterinarian hero today.

LEARN ABOUT ASIAN ELEPHANTS IN NEED

Rescue stories from the field:

Madumi

Madumi, a young elephant calf with a serious leg injury, was found in pain and struggling to walk. After arriving at the Elephant Transit Home in Sri Lanka, the veterinary team found a metal cable embedded in her leg. Madumi was anesthetized and the cable surgically removed. Her wound dressing was changed daily, and antibiotics were administered. She remained in the intensive care unit for a month with constant veterinary care and a special diet.

VI supports and empowers the amazing vets who provide life-saving care for Asian elephant calves.
