Federal Government Announces CEWS Extension

The Government of Canada an nounced its intention to extend the CEWS program until December. Details on the extension are expected to be released later this week. We commented that news of the extension was positive, but a successful CEWS update must also expand revenue eligibility and provide absolute clarity and consistency about the criteria for eligibility. Too many businesses are still uncertain about their ability to qualify for the program . Click here for CCC statement.
CECRA Extended

Canada Emergency Commercial Rent Assistance (CECRA) will be extended by one month to cover eligible small business rents for July. In addition, to simplify the application process for all applicants, the government is removing the requirement to claw-back insurance proceeds and provincial rent supports from the CECRA forgivable loan amount for both existing and new applicants. Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant

The   Small and Medium Enterprise Relaunch Grant  offers financial assistance to Alberta businesses, cooperatives, and non-profit organizations that faced restrictions or closures from public health orders, and experienced a revenue loss of at least 50% due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Eligible job creators can apply for up to $5,000 through this program.
Restoring Balance in Alberta’s Workplaces

The proposed Bill 32,  Restoring Balance in Alberta’s Workplaces Act , will support economic recovery, restore balance in the workplace and get Albertans back to work. If passed, this legislation could save job creators an estimated $100 million per year by reducing red tape from daily operations – helping them keep their doors open – and provide jobs for hard-working Albertans.

The City of Airdrie is supporting local businesses impacted by COVID-19 by launching a Temporary Outdoor Patio Program that will run until Oct 31, 2020. This patio program is intended to give businesses more options to welcome customers in a safe and appealing way.
