Your Chamber Is Advocating for You!
2021 City of Airdrie Budget
Last Friday, November 6th, the Airdrie Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors and Executive Director had the opportunity to meet with city staff where they presented us with the proposed 2021 City of Airdrie budget. We then sent a letter of recommendation to City Council to review prior to their budget deliberations starting Thursday, November 12, 2020.
  • We were overall very pleased by the prudent approach our City is taking for the proposed 2021 budget.
  • The Airdrie Chamber of Commerce recommended that business receive a 0% property tax increase in 2021 as so many of our small local businesses have been struggling to keep their doors open during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • We still advocated in support of the Downtown Revitalize project as we believe that with a proper marketing strategy, a new downtown plan will drive new business into our community, and in turn have a positive economic impact on the entire community.
  • We also understood that for our City to sustain current facilitates and plan for new capital project, future years will require larger tax increases and new revenue streams.
Thank you to Paul Schulz, Chief Administrative Officer, and Lucy Wiwcharuk, Director of Corporate Services for your comprehensive presentation of the 2021 Proposed Budget.

Possible Polling Sites Required
Call Out from Elections Canada

In the event a snap election is called during this pandemic, our local Elections Canada staff may be looking for your assistance in finding additional polling sites for election day.

As you can imagine with social distancing being the new normal, they will not be able to host as many people in the typical venues.

At this time local staff would likely do a site visit. If the site is suitable the information will be entered into their data base and should an election be called and the space is still required, you would be contacted again to see if indeed the site is still available.

If you know of or have any larger spaces that you may be willing to repurpose and rent for election day please email Banff-Airdrie Returning Officer, Loren Braat a[email protected].
