From National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD)
Dear Advocate,
Later this month, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos will submit a report to Congress on her recommended waivers of states’ and districts’ obligations under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) during the COVID-19 pandemic. Congress will then determine whether waivers should be granted. If provisions of IDEA are waived—even temporarily—school-aged children with disabilities and their parents could lose their rights to participate in the public education system.
NCLD is launching an awareness campaign — #MyIDEAmatters — and wants YOU to join them!

The Dr. Rosa Hagin Scholarship
Dr. Rosa Hagin was an educator who was very involved with awareness of the skills needed for students with Learning Disabilities to find success at the post-secondary level. She was a very active member of LDANJ and when she passed remembered LDANJ in her will. Thus, we named the scholarship in her honor.
We usually honor the scholarship winners at our spring conference, Life in High School and Beyond. However, this was not possible under the present circumstances. We hope that everyone is healthy and doing okay during this social distancing time. All nominators will be notified by email within the next few days so that they can inform their students of the Committee's decisions..
LDANJ is proud to announce that three winners are being awarded $1000 and five students will receive $500. The winners come from various parts of NJ and are attendees of both public high school and private special education school settings.
1000 winners were from
North Hunterdon High School
Robbinsville High School
Point Pleasant Beach High School
500 scholarships were also given to students graduating from
Cambridge School
Midland School
Franklin High School
West Orange High School
Winston Preparatory School
Congratulations to all of the winners!
We also want to recognize all the other applicants for the scholarships. All of these students displayed excellence in scholarship, volunteerism, perseverance, and leadership as well. It was very difficult for the Scholarship Committee to make their selections.
LDANJ wishes all of these students and all of the students in the high school graduating Class of 2020 the best of luck in achieving their post-secondary goals. May all your dreams come true!
