Research shows 15–20% of youth gamble regularly, and 2–8% show signs of problem gambling. Online gambling and sports betting are growing, with gamified features that encourage risky behaviors. These trends are linked to rising anxiety, depression, substance use, and family stress.
UNC Behavioral Health Springboard (UNC-BHS), in collaboration with Alison Wood of the NC Problem Gambling Program and subject matter experts, has launched the Adolescent Gambling and Gaming Series, a new online course designed for mental health professionals and youth-serving organizations. The course provides practical, evidence-based strategies for prevention, screening, and support.
