DMH/DD/SUS Launches Peer Warmline Dashboard

DMH/DD/SUS released a new dashboard today presenting call volume, satisfaction rates, and other statistics that document usage of the Peer Warmline. The Peer Warmline is a phone line staffed by Peer Support Specialists who offer non-clinical support and resources to those experiencing emotional difficulty, mental health issues, substance use, or just need to talk with someone.

The dashboard shows a 99% satisfaction rate among over 56,000 callers from February to March 2025 who responded to a survey. Forty percent of callers called a second time during this time period, indicating they find the service valuable.

The Peer Warmline was launched in February of 2024 to work in tandem with the North Carolina 988 Suicide and Crisis Lifeline by giving callers the option to speak with a Peer Support Specialist. Peer Support Specialists (or “peers”) are people living in recovery from mental health and/or substance use challenges who provide support to others who can benefit from their lived experience. It is designed as a supportive, non-crisis resource for individuals in North Carolina who want someone to talk to who truly understands what they are going through.

The dashboard provides a snapshot of how many people call the line, the general reason they called, how long they spent on the line and how satisfied they were with the support they received. Support from others with lived experience has been shown to reduce hospitalizations and emergency room visits.

The Peer Warmline is free and available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week (English only). People can call the Peer Warmline directly at 855-PEERS-NC (855-733-7762), or they can call 988 and be transferred.
