Council Amends
Property Maintenance Code
Following recent public hearings regarding property maintenance code changes, Council voted at its July 13 meeting to pass legislation which would update the Village Property Maintenance Code.

Changes stemmed from resident complaints, questions and lack of clarity in the code on how to approve certain requests, as well as the need to bring sections of the Village Zoning Code up to date. Ultimately, these updates reflect the importance of preserving property values, as well as adding value and character to the community.

Some of the areas where changes were made include types of permissible fencing material, restriction of above ground pools, and requirements for outdoor furniture in front yards.

Residents should be aware that the passage of these ordinances will take effect 45 days from their passage, or beginning on Wednesday, August 27, 2020. Any new installation of fencing, swimming pools or other property maintenance requirements under the new code must meet the new requirements. Fences, pools and other structures that were in place prior to the August 27th date will be considered grandfathered, and in compliance with Village Code. Property Maintenance Spotlight:
Top Benefits of Painting Your Home
Amberley Village is proud to introduce a new initiative with our Property Maintenance Spotlight. Last month we talked about how a fresh coat of paint both protects your home and offers a boost in home value. But choosing the right color can give the exterior of your home a brand new look and feel.
House colors can range from earth tones to bold pops of color, and every homeowner has their own preference. But a quick glance at the home on the left shown in two different color schemes proves that how you paint your home can have a stark impact on its curb appeal.

Many homeowners opt to utilize the services of a professional designer to assist in choosing the right color combination, but many paint and hardware stores offer services to assist in color selection at no additional cost.

Many sites offer free software to help you visualize what a fresh color combo might look like on your home. You can start by doing an online search for exterior home paint color visualizer to find one that appeals to you.
Considering making an exterior change to your home? We'd love to see your before/after photos. Send them to us at

Important Information About Brush Collection
Many residents are accustomed to having brush picked up on a specific day of the week. However, in an effort to increase efficiency, Amberley Village Maintenance Department will now pick up brush on a rotation designed to provide service to each house once per week.

The 35-second video below shows the proper way to set out brush, which helps increase efficiency as well. Thanks in advance for doing your part to help our Maintenance Department get to everyone in a timely manner!

The brush that the Village collects goes to our Class IV composting facility rather than in a landfill, and is used to fulfill resident requests for wood chips. These efforts contribute to the Village's overall commitment to recycling and responsible land use.
Amberley Village Earns 16th
Tree City USA Appointment
Amberley Village is now in its 16th year as an official Tree City USA!

Amberley Village achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department, a tree-care ordinance, an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation.

Trees are assets to a community when properly planted and maintained. They help improve the visual appeal of a neighborhood, increase property values, reduce home cooling costs, remove air pollutants and provide wildlife habitat, among many other benefits.

The Tree City USA program is sponsored by the Arbor Day Foundation in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service and the National Association of State Foresters.
Congratulations, Amberley Village!

If you're headed out of town, make this stop first.
Pick up the phone and call Amberley Village Police Department if you plan to head out town this summer. We offer free vacation home checks that will give your family peace of mind while you're away.

Amberley Village Police Department makes regular checks of homes where residents plan to be gone for any length of time. They also offer some handy safety tips to secure your home while away:

  • Keep shades and blinds in their normal positions.
  • Stop mail and newspaper delivery, or arrange for someone to pick them up everyday.
  • Lock all doors and windows.
  • Activate your security alarm.
  • Arrange for lawn or shoveling service at proper times.
  • Put timers on several household lights so they turn on and off at appropriate times.
  • Leave a radio on or put it on a timer.
  • Don't allow deliveries of any kind to accumulate on your doorstep.
  • Ask a neighbor to park in your driveway overnight.
  • Refrain from publicizing your trip ahead of time.
  • Turn down the ringer on your telephone to avoid a ringing phone.
  • Do not broadcast your vacation on social media. A post showing you are in Florida is a sure sign that you are out of town. The less information you put out there, the less likely it is to reach the wrong ears and eyes.
  • Do not leave portable GPS devices and electronics visible in your vehicle while your vehicle is parked at the airport.
  • Don't hide a house key outside. Burglars know the best hiding places better than you do.
  • Lock up jewelry, electronics, and any other valuables or sensitive documents in a fire-proof safe.

Amberley Village is committed to keeping lines of communication open and accessible between residents and government officials. In this spirit, Amberley Village has incorporated Village-issued email addresses for Councilmembers into its digital communications protocol.

These measures unify the format, making it easier for residents to send a message when an issue comes to mind. The member's first initial followed by last name (no space) will get your message on its way to members of the Amberley Village Council.

Amberley Village Council meets on the second Monday of each month. The next scheduled meeting is for Monday, August 10 at 6:30 pm in Council Chambers and online.
Information to watch online is available on our website at

Residents may call in or attend in person to participate.
