Fra' Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio
di Sanguinetto,
80th Prince and Grand Master
1944 - 2020
Remembering our dear friend, Fra' Giacomo, HMEH the Prince and Grand Master of the Order of Malta
Our team at the Global Fund for Forgotten People is deeply saddened by the death of the Grand Master, Fra' Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto. His wholehearted compassion for those in need guided and motivated us. We will continue to be inspired by his legacy, a love for the mission of the Order of Malta, a love for the poor and forgotten.
The Grand Master took great joy in attending the Order's international summer camps for young people with disabilities, and was warmly greeted by guests and volunteers alike.
"With your help, and God’s grace, the Order is advancing its mission of tuitio fidei and obsequium pauperum in service of the Forgotten People."

Fra' Giacomo Dalla Torre del Tempio di Sanguinetto

“We all have our personal memories of Fra’ Giacomo as a devout and loving gentleman. He noticed every small act of kindness and never failed to say “thank you”. He had a particular affection for the work of the Global Fund for Forgotten People. We will never forget him.”

Lisa S-C Simpson, Chief Executive
Upon receiving the news of the death of Fra’ Giacomo the Holy Father sent a personal message to the Order. Here is an excerpt from his telegram:

9 April 2020

"I remember the total fidelity to Christ and to the Gospel of this so zealous man of culture and faith, together with his generous commitment in performing his office with a spirit of service for the good of the Church, as well as his dedication to those who suffer most."

Pope Francis
“The Global Fund for Forgotten People has become a very important institution for the Order, helping many of the Order’s organisations to develop new and successful projects. You are an inspiration to me and to all of us.”

A Life Dedicated to the Forgotten
Fra' Giacomo was beloved for his warmth and kindness. His life embodied the Order's mission to care for those in need with wholeheartedness and joy.

He lived out this dedication, whether serving meals to the homeless and destitute in Rome, even in the depth of winter, or participating in the Order's national and international pilgrimages. On official state visits, he always made sure to visit the Order's social and medical works to talk with patients and carers.
"I will pray for you, please pray for me."
