Dear Families,
With recent school events, we want to keep you updated on our safety measures to protect students and staff. Our Board of Education regularly reviews and updates our safety plans to stay prepared for any situation. Today, Carrollton City Schools is introducing the LifeSpot Emergency Response System—a tool that allows our staff to alert police during active shooter situations quickly. All staff have been fully trained, and LifeSpot is ready to use if needed, helping reduce response times when every second counts.
For more details, please watch the short video below, which explains how LifeSpot helps keep students and staff safe.
In addition to LifeSpot, we are adding several new safety features this year, along with the ones we already have in place:
New Safety Features:
- LifeSpot System: Lets us instantly communicate with police during an active shooter event, making response times faster.
- Controlled Access: Automatic locking doors and buzzers at all front entrances so we can tightly control access to our buildings.
- Additional School Resource Officer (SRO): We have added a fifth SRO at CHS to support the four dedicated SROs already assigned to each school daily.
Ongoing Safety Measures:
- Classroom Security: Classroom doors are kept locked all day for extra protection.
- Surveillance Systems: Security cameras provide constant monitoring and help us respond quickly if needed.
- Safety Drills: Regular fire, weather, and intruder drills prepare students and staff to respond quickly in emergencies.
- Mental Health Support: Licensed counselors, through our partnership with Willowbrooke at Tanner, offer in-school support to help students with mental health needs.
- Medical Support: Each school has a registered nurse on-site, and we are within a half mile of Tanner Health System, allowing quick access to medical care.
- Medical Training: District and school staff receive basic medical training and training in CPR and AED use.
We are committed to continually improving our safety plans and keeping you updated. Thank you for your trust as we work to protect our students, staff, and school community.
Sincerely,
Dr. Mark Albertus
Superintendent
