An Unforgettable Experience

THE 2024 UTAHROTARY DISTRICT CONFERENCE

Registration, a Mere $99 per person

Venue: R. Haze Hunter Alumni Center

351 W University Blvd. | Cedar City Utah

This event promises innovative learning, interactivity, and a refreshing departure from the usual “talking heads” at these events. Instead, this year, UtahRotary's District Conference will blend fellowship, fun, and delicious food, all while clubs compete for $11,000 in club awards.

Mark your calendars for September 27th and 28th, when we’ll gather in beautiful Cedar City, nestled at the footsteps of Cedar Breaks National Monument, and learn how Rotarians can use our clubs to do more good in the world. For a mere $99 per person, your registration includes:

  • Participatory Learning: Rather than sit quietly in a classroom listening to a talking head droning on about Rotary, attendees shall be up out of their chairs learning from each other through the experiences of their clubs and knowledge gleaned through their Rotary journey.

  • Continental Breakfast: Fuel up with morning breaks on both Friday and Saturday, starting at 8 am.

  • Lunches Both Days: Savor meals while connecting with fellow Rotarians.

  • BBQ Banquet: Join us just outside Cedar City for a legendary BBQ banquet on Friday night at Iron Springs Resort sponsored by the Cedar City Rotary Club. Expect great food, entertainment, and warm fellowship.

  • Awards Banquet: On Saturday night, PDG John Redd and DG Todd Boyer will distribute $11,000 in awards to outstanding clubs for their accomplishment. See more below!

  • "39 Steps" Theatrical performance. A fast-paced “whodunit” comedy performed with only four actors—balancing suspense, non-stop comedy, and a good splash of romance. The comedy is a $55 value and includes your $99 per person registration fee.

This conference is destined to be epic! Come for the fellowship, come for the fun, come to boost your club’s chances at winning monetary awards, and come to deepen your understanding of Rotary’s impact on the world.

Let’s do more good together!

Rendezvous Fair in Cedar City

A chance to get answers to your questions!

During a talking head typical convention, it is hard to get your questions answered about how to make your club stronger and better. Well, get ready for a fast-paced exciting fun fest Rendezvous Fair where you'll wander among stations and get answers to such questions as:

  • How does my club start an Interact or Rotaract club?
  • What are District or Global grants and how does my club apply for one?
  • How can my club pull off an International Service Project?
  • What are the Youth Programs of Rotary and how can my club get involved?
  • How does my club grow membership?
  • What can my club do to create a vibrant Club Public Image?
  • How can I ensure impactful Rotary programs?
  • What do Area Governors do and how can my club utilize them to get the tools needed to ensure club success?
  • The real role of the Sergeant-at-Arms?

Every Rotarian present will select which stations they wish to visit during the fair and will have the opportunity to visit six stations.

Get ready for the Rotary Awards Extravaganza! On September 11, at 8 pm via Zoom (link to be sent prior to the event), our dynamic duo, Past District Rotary Governor John Redd and District Governor Todd Boyer — will take the virtual stage!

They’re about to drop the mic (well, virtually) and reveal the 2023-24 nominees for each award category as listed below. Brace yourselves, Rotarians, because we’ve got suspense, excitement, and maybe even a drumroll! Up to four nominees will be unveiled for each category, all based on submissions from Rotary clubs or Rotarians. Let’s celebrate our outstanding members and ignite the Rotary spirit! Let’s come together at the District Conference and celebrate the outstanding contributions of our members! Culture Walk

Renaissance Rendezvous

2024 District Conference

A Unique Journey!

Attention, fellow Rotarians! If you’ve never attended a Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) event, get ready for an experience more captivating than a squirrel chasing its tail.

Before you start doing lunges in your living room or practicing your sprinter’s stance, let’s clarify: No workout gear is required! We won’t be breaking a sweat. Instead, you’ll be invited to take a stroll a few feet to the front of the room, with others who identify themselves with a particular group, whether it’s "undergarment wearers" or those "going commando." As you stand in front of the room with your group, the audience will sit in silence as the facilitator asks two questions, and individuals in the group respond. The questions are:

  1. What is the one thing you wish to share about your group?
  2. What is the one thing you never want to hear again about your group?

As the activity progresses, the subject matter goes from funny and light to weightier subjects. Participants discuss experiences like having a family member impacted by unemployment, facing a health crisis, or going through divorce. The facilitator continues to ask the same two questions to each group.

Participants will bond over shared experiences and forge lasting friendships.

So, dear Rotarians, lace up your metaphorical walking shoes, adjust your mental pedometer, and join us for the Culture Walk. It’s not just a stroll—it’s a transformative journey.

Remember: Life is like a rotary wheel—sometimes it spins, sometimes it pivots, but it always leads us forward.

The Leaning Towers of Straw

At this year’s UtahRotary District Conference, we’re shaking things up a bit! No more snoozefest lectures —instead, we’re diving headfirst into interactive, hands-on learning.

You and your fellow Rotarians will be asked to work in teams to design, and then build, a tower of power from materials provided by the Conference Committee. As you do so, you'll be honing not just your intellect, but building a tower of goodwill and friendships. This year's conference and its unique format is designed to lean into, pun intended, the way adults learn best - by doing. Imagine leaving the conference with leadership skills you can take back to your club, business, or home and share. And the winning team building the highest tower will be awarded with chocolate and duct tape, because everyone knows if you can't fix it with duct tape, you eat the chocolate and you just won't care!

So mark your calendars, pack your enthusiasm, and get ready to laugh your way to Rotary success!

Musical Chairs Reimagined

Imagine this: Rotarians from across the state of Utah gather in the conference hall, their eyes gleaming with anticipation. The table and chairs are set up, a box lunch is provided for every Rotarian. At each table Rotarians are asked to share what is unique about them, and then what is unique about their Rotary club. Everyone is laughing, jokin', and eating and talking with their mouth's full. Then the hall rocks with "Set Fire to the Rain" by Adelle and everyone picks up their box lunches and moves to another table. But there’s a twist, instead of frantically attempting to find another table or chair, when the music stops playing, you'll be asked to waltz gracefully to another seat in the hall. No pushing, no shoving – just elegant moves and friendly conversations.

Rotarians, get ready for an exhilarating experience at the Rotary Tournament of Champions! Each Rotary club is invited to sponsor a team. In early September, before the conference, UtahRotary will unleash a variation of the March Madness Tournament complete with brackets, pitting clubs against clubs in a spirited contest of wits and camaraderie.

What’s in it for you? Not only will you discover tidbits of Rotary that were previously unknown, but you’ll also have a chance to win big. The victorious team walks away with a cool $1000, while the runner-up pockets $500. 💰

Expect laughter, perhaps a few tears from the losing teams, and a whole lot of fun as you delve into topics like TRF What? Don't Leave Home Without It, Rotary Potpourri, Service Above Self, Polio Gone, and more.

And when you return to your clubs, armed with newfound knowledge, you’ll have plenty of ideas on how to make your fellow Rotarians even more informed about the organization they belong to. Let the games begin!

CULTURE AT THE RENDEZVOUS!

Did you know included in your ticket for the District Conference - Renaissance, Rendezvous - is a $55 dollar value? Yes, that is right, the price of this year's conference includes a $55 value which is a ticket to see a comedy entitled "39 Steps."

Come and enjoy, walk away with your tummy hurting because of so many belly laughs, and enjoy the Magic of Rotary.

  • There were four founding fathers of Rotary. Can you name them?
  • Why Rotary is named Rotary?
  • What is TRF?
  • The significance of $26.50?
  • Who was Herbert J. Taylor? Rumor is Governor John went to school with him.

The answers to all these inquiries will be revealed during Rotary Jeopardy!

Please stand by!

IRON SPRINGS RESORT BBQ

Get ready for a sizzling Friday evening at the Iron Spring Resort! The Cedar City Rotary Club is firing up the grill for a mouthwatering barbecue feast, complete with all the trimmings. But it’s not just about the food—this event is your chance to connect, mingle, and forge lasting friendships with Rotarians from other clubs across UtahRotary.

So grab a plate, share a laugh, and leave with a heart full of goodwill. You won’t want to miss it!

Secret Rotarians

and Win $100!

Here’s how it works:

  1. The Hunt Begins: Governor Redd and Governor Boyer will secretly designate one “Secret Rotarian,” per break.
  2. The Mission: The covert agent will walk among the attendees during the break conversing and socializing. Each agent (aka Secret Rotarian) will be instructed that the first, or maybe the fourth person who chats with them will be the winner of the $100.

So, strike up conversations, share stories, and forge connections – all in the spirit of goodwill and better friendships. Get ready to uncover hidden gems of wisdom and insight. Who knows? You might just be the lucky one to spot the Secret Rotarian and claim a cash prize!
