Special Edition:
MCAS Testing Information

Dear BFCCPS Families,
This year's MCAS testing is just a few weeks away. Today's Special Edition is dedicated to providing you with more information about this years statewide assessments for all students in Grades Three through Eight.
Here at BFCCPS we don't "teach to the test" but we are confident that the rigorous education we provide to our students has them prepared for the challenges of MCAS.  Additionally, their ongoing use of technology in the classroom provides them with the skills they need to easily navigate the online testing environment.
Just below you will find the complete testing schedule, a letter from the Commissioner of the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, a link to the Student Tutorial and Practice site and a few strategies to ensure smooth testing days for your students.
If you have any questions or concerns, please email me for assistance.

Heather Zolnowski
Head of School
BFCCPS Testing Schedule:
We ask that you please  make every effort to have your students in Grades Three and up in attendance and on time on their assessment days. Students who arrive after a testing session has commenced will not be able to start their session and will have to schedule a make-up exam.
While make-up exam days are available, this will result in missed class time. Therefore we please ask that you review any upcoming planned doctor or dentist appointments that conflict with your student(s) testing days and reschedule if at all possible.

4/3 & 4/4 Grade 7 & 8 ELA
4/9 & 4/10 Grade 3 & 4 ELA
4/11 & 4/12 Grade 5 & 6 ELA
4/23 - 4/27 ELA Makeups
4/30 & 5/1 Grade 4 & 5 Math
5/2 & 5/3 Grade 7 & 8 Math
5/7 & 5/8 Grade 3 Math
Grade 5 Science
5/9 & 5/10 Grade 6 Math
Grade 8 Science
All classrooms will implement a practice test before their actual testing session so that students are familiar with the computer based testing environment.
General Information:
  • 3-8 will take two sessions of ELA
  • 3-8 will take two Math sessions
  • 5 & 8 have two sessions of Science and Technology/Engineering (STE)
BFCCPS will take the computer based MCAS assessment at all grade levels.

Food and/or candy will not be permitted during testing time. Students will eat their morning snack before testing commences.

All students will have unlimited time to complete each test session, therefore students should bring a book that they can read quietly until all students in their session complete the exam.
How you can help:

Please ensure that your student(s) get a good night's sleep and a hearty breakfast before their testing sessions.

Remind your students that they don't need to stress about these tests for any reason. Our rigorous curriculum ensures that they are already very well prepared for these assessments.

Pawsitive Touch:

The Pawsitive Touch therapy dogs will be visiting BFCCPS on Monday, April 9th from 8 am to 9 am for any students that might like a brief visit.

This visit has been coordinated on the first day that students in Third Grade will be taking MCAS for the first day; however any students that might like to visit with the therapy dogs will be able to do so as well.
