**EVENT CANCELLATION**
VETERANS BENEFIT FAIR POSTPONED DUE
TO THE POTENTIAL EFFECTS OF HURRICANE IAN

Due to the impending storm and the State of Emergency called by Gov. Ron DeSantis, I have made the decision to postpone the Veterans Benefit Fair at the South County Civic Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28. A rescheduled time and date, as well as additional information will be announced at a later date.
Hurricane Preparedness
Palm Beach County Emergency Management officials continue to actively monitor Hurricane Ian and its progress towards our area. Palm Beach County advises all residents and visitors to be aware of the potential impacts of Hurricane Ian and advises all county residents to visit pbcgov.com/hurricane, where individuals and businesses can build a disaster plan and a checklist to complete their disaster supply kits. If you have not built your kit, please take the time to do so.

What Actions Should You Take To Be Prepared?

  • Have a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) All-Hazards Weather Radio and battery backup to receive important weather and other emergency-related warnings.
  • Build a disaster supply kit and have a family and/or business plan. Remember to also have a plan for pets.
  • Identify a Safe Room in the interior of your home or business that can help provide protection for you and your family or your employees. This room should be located away from all windows and exterior walls and doors.
  • Look up and determine if your home is in a storm surge evacuation zone at Know Your Zone. If so, learn what needs to be done if you evacuate or stay when a storm is moving toward your area.
  • Learn how to prepare your home from wind damage before a storm threatens your area.
  • Make sure that all other aspects of your home are as protected from hurricanes as possible, including photos of property and insurance papers in waterproof containers.
  • If you are a person or know of persons who depend upon electrically energized life support equipment within the home, a reminder that pre-registration is required for the Special Needs Shelter.
