Free Special Education Series in McHenry County

Family Resource Center on Disabilities is offering free Special Education Trainings in McHenry County this fall.  These trainings will focus on the special education process in Illinois, including requesting evaluations for special education services, parent advocacy before, after and during the IEP, and preparing your child to transition out of  school and into the adult world.

Presented by Lekotek and Just Give Me Chance
      Join "Just Give Me A Chance" and Lekotek for a fun-filled class!  "Just Gives Me A Chance" is an engaging social activities group for children ages 2-12 years old with disabilities.  Activities include arts and crafts, cooking, and games.  Lekotek is a play-based therapy center for children with special needs. Lekotek and "Just Give Me A Chance" are partnering to make the world of play accessible to those with disabilities.

Lekotek is a nonprofit organization that works with children and families with special needs. This organization conducts therapeutic play sessions, family support groups, and education for the special needs community; parents and professionals.
This webinar will focus on Lekotek services and how its services can benefit parents.




Seizure Recognition and First Aid Presentation:

This free educational program is designed to inform the general public about epilepsy and seizure disorders. Professional public health educators will cover seizure recognition and first aid, seizures and safety, epilepsy treatment, and how to assist someone having a seizure while providing appropriate first aid techniques.



Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Programs

Early CHOICES is a Preschool Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) Initiati ve of the Illinois State Board of Education. This organization promotes increasing high quality inclusive education for each and every preschool aged child by providing technical assistance and professional development to early childhood professionals and families in Illinois. In September, 2015, the  US Departments of Education and Health and Human Services jointly released a Policy Statement on Inclusion of Children with Disabilities in Early Childhood Programs, which states that all young children with disabilities should have access to inclusive high-quality early childhood programs, where they are provided with individualized and appropriate support in meeting high expectations. This webinar will share how this policy can be used this to support access to inclusive options.
