Fall Retreat: Finding Our Still Center

Sept 18 - 21 Pilgrim Lodge Gardner, ME

Silent retreat is the supreme method of understanding our minds through direct experience. We often read about meditation, we try to fit in a few moments daily or weekly meditation into our busy lives. In retreat we build our day around meditation. The sustained contemplative exploration- if only for four days leads to lasting insights. Peace is truly found within.

Khenmo will combine traditional Shamatha/Calm Abiding meditation with exercises to apply our training in daily life. She is gifted both in giving clear instruction and making meditation practice relevant for navigating our chaotic times.

Our small sangha is dedicated to creating circumstances for retreat because it has been so beneficial for them. This retreat is a long weekend (Thurs evening till Sunday lunch) with a gentle schedule allowing personal time in this lakeside setting. We hope those who wish to begin retreat practice but are unable to commit to a longer time will find this is "just right".

"The Heart Sutra" series continues Sundays at 10 am

Sundays, Khenmo continues teachings on the Heart Sutra- the essential Mahayana Sutra recited by Sanghas all over the world. We will use the "Heart of Understanding" by Thich Nhat Hanh for reference.

Form is emptiness, emptiness is form. This essential understanding has many profound levels. Khenmo will focus on ways we can use interdependence to shift our experience of daily life to the bigger picture of our interconnection.

Register here if you are new to Sunday Dharma.

Rare Training for Nuns at Sravasti Abbey

Taking the Vinaya as Our Teacher

with Vinaya Master Venerable Wuyin

Abbess of Luminary International Buddhist Society

(LIBS香光尼僧團), Taiwan

October 27-November 17, 2025

Sravasti Abbey invites novice and fully ordained Buddhist nuns for a rare opportunity to live and study in monastic community. Guided by Vinaya Master Venerable Wuyin, we will share in the very heart of monastic ethics, a wisdom that no book study can bring. The instruction will especially explore the root and subsidiary precepts regarding sexuality and stealing, as preserved in the Dharmaguptaka Vinaya. The Abbey is committed to preserving the Buddhadharma, including the bhikshuni lineage, through dedicated Vinaya practice at the Abbey and supporting nuns’ training worldwide.

Nuns attending this program will have the opportunity to live and train in a Western monastic community.
